RANKS
This page discusses the different ranks in the Hammer's Fist and any policies
associated with them. It is important to remember that position always takes
precedent over rank, however those who continuously move up in rank are often
seen as very active and skilled members who lower ranking troopers look up to.
Rank promotions are considered rewards for length in service combined with
contributions made by that member.

Enlisted to Officer
Commissioning
All new officers must begin as a Second Lieutenant, First Lieutenant, or
Captain depending on their enlisted rank at the time of commissioning. The
enlisted rank requirements for commissioning are as follows:
Enlisted Rank Held |
Eligible Officer Rank |
Private, Private First Class, Specialist |
not eligible for commission |
Lance Corporal, Corporal, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant |
Second Lieutenant |
Gunnery Sergeant |
First Lieutenant |
Master Sergeant |
Captain |
Sergeant Major |
Captain * |
* Sergeant Majors are commissioned as Captains with a special
accelerated advancement program to Major. The accelerated program allows the
new Captain to be promoted to Major after 1 month of satisfactory duty.
New officers will be limited as to the positions that they can be
initially assigned to based upon the rank that they are being commissioned
to. For example, a Staff Sergeant being commissioned for the first time will
be allowed to take the rank of Second Lieutenant, so he/she may only be
assigned to a position with the minimum rank of 2LT (which would be Company
Commander). This regulation may only be broken in special appointment cases
by order of the Prefect. Any enlisted member wishing to apply to an officer
position must at minimum hold the rank of Lance Corporal. The officer in
charge of the open position may require a higher rank if they feel it
necessary, but it may never be lower than LCP.

Officer to Enlisted
Rank Conversions
It would not be proper for officers and enlisted members to be mixed into
the same unit. In the event that an officer is transferred to an enlisted
position (FTM, FTL, or DL), the officer will be required to be reduced to an
enlisted rank determined by their current officer rank OR the last
enlisted rank they held, whichever is higher. The conversion chart is as
follows:
Officer Rank Held |
Enlisted Rank Received |
Second Lieutenant |
Lance Corporal |
First Lieutenant |
Corporal |
Captain |
Sergeant |
Major |
Staff Sergeant |
Lieutenant Colonel |
Gunnery Sergeant |
Colonel |
Master Sergeant |
All General Ranks |
Sergeant Major |
If an enlisted member who is formally an officer transfers back into an
officer position, the member will be re-commissioned with the officer rank
they last held, unless they lost said rank for disciplinary reasons or
failure to meet tour of duty requirements.
For members returning to active duty as en enlisted member with an old
officer rank from the previous ranking system, your old officer rank will first
be converted to an old enlisted rank using the chart below. Your old enlisted
rank will then be converted to it's new rank equivalent using this chart.

Old Rank Conversions
In September 2009, a new ranking system was created to remove bloated tiers
and unnecessary ranks. Members that currently hold a rank from the old system
will see their rank name starred (*) to indicate that they need to have their
rank converted to the new system. This will be done as they are assigned to an
active unit. If you have any issues regarding the conversions, contact the
Prefect. The conversion chart is as follows:
