Platform Ratings
by Major Khadgar

Each category is rated on a scale from 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest).

X-Wing

The Non-EH Tour of Duties: 4
Single Player EH-Wise: 3
Multiplayer EH-Wise: N/A
Interface: 3
Graphics: 2
Level Design: 5
Overall: 3

Comments: The original platform. The graphics are okay in X-Wing 95. Both IW-XW and the Tour of Duties are quite difficult. The interface is a little clumsy, but not too bad once you get used to it. Not too many craft available compared to TIE Fighter, but it has the basics. The Level Editing is extremely easy with XWED.

TIE Fighter

The Non-EH Tour of Duties: 5
Single Player EH-Wise: 5
Multiplayer EH-Wise: N/A
Interface: 5
Graphics: 3
Level Design: 3
Overall: 4.5

Comments: The Emperor's Hammer was built on TIE Fighter. It is still the most popular and most used platform in the TIE Corps. TIE Fighter offers an excellent single player experience. Flight Officer and Secret Order questions allow for a more in depth plot line. The interface is quite easy to use, the graphics are dated, but this doesn't really take away from the game too much. Pretty much every essential craft plus many more. Level Design (using TFW) is a bit more tedious then with X-Wing since it doesn't involve a graphical X/Y Co-ordinate plane.

X-Wing vs TIE Fighter

The Non-EH Tour of Duties: N/A
Single Player EH-Wise: 3
Multiplayer EH-Wise: 4
Interface: 5
Graphics: 5
Level Design: 4
Overall: 4

Comments: Doesn't have any Single Player Campaign without the Balance of Power Add-on pack. Pretty good for EH related Single Player, but this platform shines more in Multiplayer. X-Wing vs TIE Fighter is perfect for any basic Multiplayer combat situations. The interface and graphics are good considering the other games, so I'll give those a 5. X-Wing vs TIE Fighter surprisingly has less craft than TIE Fighter, but still more than X-Wing. The Level Design is almost as easy as X-Wing when using XvTED.

X-Wing Alliance

The Non-EH Tour of Duties: 4
Single Player EH-Wise: 5
Multiplayer EH-Wise: 5
Interface: 5
Graphics: 5
Level Design: N/A (Have never tried XWA Level Design before.)
Overall: 4

Comments: Pretty decent Non-EH Single Player Campaign. Custom Battles from the Battle Center are often quite fun to play. Multiplayer has all the fun of XvT plus skirmishes, which are a lot of fun. The interface and graphics are fine considering the other games and get 5s. I've never tried XWA Level Design, so I am unsure of what it is like, although I've heard it is more difficult than other platforms to design missions for. My only complaint about the game is that it runs rather slowly on my computer, especially in Multiplayer, since I have a P 200 MhZ.

Bottom Line: X-Wing is rather dated, but hugely easy for level design. TIE Fighter is great for Single Player missions. X-Wing vs TIE Fighter is well-balanced, but shines in Multiplayer most. X-Wing Alliance is overall a great game, but runs slowly on older computers.
