Fleet News
Check http://www.tiecorps.org/news.asp for the most recent information. Suffice to say that it’s been a busy week in the fleet. There’s the Battlegroups Competition (Cantina Run III) coming up next week, a recent revision of the Iron Star medal system (hopefully the LAST such revision), and a whole lot of other fun stuff. Even word of a long-awaited Quake modification for Star Wars! And, sadly, the last issue of BattleCry was released early this week.
Wing News
General Ricaud waxed emotional about the upcoming Cantina Run, feelings echoed by our own Vice Admiral (promoted this past Sunday, no less). With Kane stepping down over in Shield, the comp does catch Relentless at something of a weak moment. But with such stalwart leaders, we cannot help but succeed. Or face an appointment with our own Morale Officer should we fail.
The Cantina Run’s important enough that it’s worth going over again. There are three phases: Fiction; Graphics; and Flying. Ricaud called for 100% participation in each phase. Relentless has yet to serve as the BG flagship. It’s time to claim what’s rightfully ours!
Squadron News
On the eve of the big competition (maybe he knew something…;)), LCM Bart transferred to the Reserves. That leaves us with four pilots to take part in Cantina Run III. I’ve taken Ricaud’s call for 100% effort to heart, and I trust that the rest of you have done the same. Relentless is a damn good ship. Coming here from a bigger, less personable command, I feel that I’ve truly found a home. And Spear is a damned good squadron. We have the potential to make a contribution to this competition that is much greater than our numbers might suggest.
Remember, for Cantina Run III the key is PARTICIPATION! Squadrons and Wings rack up the points through their participation percentages. Quality is great, but we also need quantity. I know CM Tack is good with graphics, so maybe he’ll be able to put together a killer submission for Phase II. But I’ll still be sending in my crappy little graphics effort, and I expect the rest of you to do the same.
Phase I is the fiction phase, and it begins on the 24th. I’ve already got my submission over half done. Remember, these don’t have to be huge works of art; just 500 words or more in English. We’ve got until March 7 to do these, which leaves time for more than one draft if you’re inclined to polish things.
The down side of this is that I’m putting off my own competition ideas until after Cantina Run III is over. But when we get to them, I think you’ll find them interesting (maniacal laughter echoes through the briefing room).

Remember: check in via e-mail AT LEAST once a week. IRC/ICQ is fine and dandy, but I still need e-mail from all of you.
******Each pilot needs to report in by February 26 with at least a proposal for a submission for Phase I.
Yellow Alert! The Graphics phase begins on March 10. We each need to get some kind of entry in for this one as well, so start thinking ahead.
