Quote: When the Rancor battle, it is the ground that loses.
Significant Events of Childhood and Adolescence: Akira's father claims to be the son of Grand Moff Tarkin, and was stationed on Saarn before it came under Rebel control. In order to escape detection, he changed his name to Kanrit Vorsehyer (the first name being an anagram of his supposed father's lineage) and fled on the next smuggler transport out, arriving at the remote, then-unaligned world of Serropa, where he met Akira's mother. Akira has had neither the time nor the inclination to verify this story, and considers himself a Vorsehyer, not a Tarkin.
Primarily an agricultural world, the Serropans had nevertheless developed a technologically advanced society, but were so remote that they were not affected by the galactic war. When the Empire began its active retreat from the New Republic, Kanrit contacted his former superiors and redeemed his AWOL status by offering the world of Serropa as a food supply source for a now-weakend Empire. As Serropa was far too remote to be of any military or strategic value, the Empire opened an annex to the Imperial Academy on Serropa, which was entrusted to Kanrit.
Significant Events of Adulthood: Akira is a member of the Serropa Annex's first graduating class, and as such has only recently come to be considered an adult by his family and peers. The struggle between the Rebels and the Empire is far removed from Serropa, and Akira has never actually flown against a Rebel; his only experience with the terrorist threat comes from simulated training exercises, both at the Academy and on Platform Dadelous.
Alignment and Attitude: The Serropans, as a people, are very peaceful. Because agriculture is such a part of their lives, they have a deep respect for the forces of life and nature, and most of their religious traditions are centered around same. The ancient pantheon included 15 gods and goddesses. Each of the four elements was represented by a Maiden, a Champion, and a Trickster; there are also three goddesses of the Spirit Realm, one each for Birth, Life, and Death. Though this religion is no longer practiced, its mytholodgy still permeates every facet of Serropian culture. Akira's callsign, Koranth, is the name of the Trickster of Fire. Akira lacks the burning hatred of the Rebellion that is common among most pilots. He is remarkably centered emotionally (especially for one so young) which he feels is an asset in his skills as a pilot, since he does not allow the heat of the moment to overcome his reasoning. He has no problem killing an opponent in battle, but he is not one to commit an act of violence without provocation. Still, the Fire gods of the Serropan ancients are those with the hottest tempers and the strongest passions; like all young men, Akira is eager to taste the adventures that the life of a space pilot offers. Akira often comes off as aloof, but it's more that he's shy and contemplative. He tends to keep an open mind about most things, but can be fanatically stubborn once his mind is made up.
Former Occupations: Since the Vorsehyers are of moderate means, Akira has never had to labor in the agricultural fields that makes up the way of life for the vast majority of the Serropan population. He has spent most of his life indoors, engaged either in training exercises or artistic pursuits (see below).
Hobbies: The relatively dull history of the Serropans have given them a culture rich in artistic tradition (if somewhat lacking in inspiration). When not engaged in training exercises or battles, Akira can be found working on one of his holographic art projects. His style is to capture holographic images of interesting people or objects, and superimpose them against fantastic, unearthly backgrounds rendered on a special machine designed for that purpose. He also experiments with a music synthesizer common among his people, that produces a kind of music Akira refers to as "synthetic jiz wailing."
Tragedies: Akira had a two-year-younger sister named Nevanaie, who was killed when Akira was very young. Kanrit blamed her death on a Rebel incursion. Akira was too young to remember the event, but has grown suspect of this explanation in more recent years due to the remarkable lack of Rebel or New Republic presence of any kind in the Serropa system.
Phobias and Allergies: Akira has a freakish (though thankfully mild) allergy to bacta that no doctor has ever been able to explain. After more than 30 minutes of exposure to the substance, its curative powers dissipate; prolonged exposure can actually cause him harm. As such, he has a few scars from memorable accidents in his childhood, since he has been occasionally forced to rely on more conventional methods of healing. This tends to make him cautious of physical activities with a high chance of physical injury (and also contributes to his solitary, contemplative nature). He has otherwise no deep-seated fears or allergies.
Personal View of the Empire and EH: Because of the prominence of natural forces in the Serropan way of life, Akira has a strong belief in the natural order of things -- namely survival of the fittest. He also has respect for order above chaos, and sees the New Republic as an agent of chaos. His only knowledge of the Rebellion/New Republic, however, comes from his father, as his people have no first-hand experience with the faction.
Reason for enlisting in the EH: Once Akira's father became headmaster of the Imperial Academy Annex, Akria's path in life seemed fairly inevitable. Akira didn't so much choose the Navy as much as he was brought there by the events of his life, which is fine with him. He certainly has ambition to do well, but the motivation is as much from his father's desires as his own.
Other Comments: Akira's cramped lieutenant commander quarters are filled to overflowing with his personal affects, which include his holographic image capture device, his artistic workstation, his musical instrument, and a 15-gallon tank of transparent duraplas. The tank is home to a two foot long, 3/4" diameter snake with black and gold criss-cross markings, a gift from his mother upon acceptance to Platform Daedelous.
