Wing III News and Orders
-------------------------------------

- Of course, the "Big News" this week was the surprise retirement of SA Compton as the Executive Officer of the EH. Compton has been the EH's Number Two for as long as I can remember, and I'm sure he will be missed within the Command Staff. His replacement will be HA Kawolski. Compton is currently serving in Omega Squadron, and has been granted the rank of General, even though he is a Flight Member. He is the only FM/GN currently serving in the fleet, and very likely the only one we will ever see.

- The results of the Wing III Christmas Bash have been released, and Aleth Squadron emerged victorious! Nicely done, Aleth. Beth Squadron was right on their heels, only losing by a handful of points. Hey and Daleth Squadrons scored 3rd and 4th, respectively. Here's a quick re-cap of the individual winners :

FCHG : LT Josh Popelka, Hey (50 pts. earned during December)
Fiction : CMDR/CM Osan'gar, Hey ("Santa Claws")
Mission Creation : CMDR/LC Sequoh Marden, Beth ("Wing III Christmas Diversion)
URL Scavanger Hunt : FL/CM Cal Sinis, Beth (48 pts.)

- Wing III IRC meetings are still in discussion reguarding a new meeting time. The apparent "crash" of UnderNet certainly isn't speeding things up. Remember, opinions should be mailed to CMDR/CM Osan'gar and myself.

- Remember, round one of XWA League III ends the 20th, this Saturday. The mission to fly is FREE-XWA #4, so if you haven't flown it yet ... get to your cockpit!!! Our goal is get a Wing III Squad into the Number One spot this time around. As the only Sov XWA wing, we have a reputation to defend ... I know I can count on all of you to do your very best.

- New Hey Squadron mailing list, courtesy of CM Osan'gar : heysquad@egroups.com

- There is an open Flight Leader position for Hey squad's Flight 2! Any interested pilots should contact CMDR Osan'gar. Sov WCs, why not pass this info on to any of your pilots with asperations of becoming a FL?

- Hey Squad competition against Dagger Squadron ended ... only one submission from Hey. 'Nuff said. LT Josh Popelka, report to the hangar bay for your free cruise in the LT3000 Comet! Be sure to have her back by 22:00 hours, and don't scratch the paint (or Frank will have to scratch you). Enjoy! And as for the rest of you ... sit tight. Frank will be along shortly.

- The new Command Attaché for the Flight Officer is ASF BGCOM/AD Priyum Patel ( spellfire@btinternet.com )!

- BattleCry #11 has been released by our very own Werdna Elbee! Be sure to check it out : http://battlecry.emperorshammer.ca

- Aleth and Daleth Squadrons are currently engaged in Combat Readiness Testing. Aleth pilots should fly TC-XWA #11, "Heroes of the Immortal." Daleth pilots are ordered to fly TC-IW #26, "Rion's Shadow Campaign : Ambassadors." Remember to send your pilot file to both your CMDR and myself. Testing will conclude at 11:59pm EST this Sunday night. Remember, your squad's CRR determines your competitive future, so I urge you participate if at all possible. Only the XWA League should be more important than this ...

- Beth vs. Falcon competition has been organized by LC Sequoh Marden. The new Iron Star will be awarded to the winners; competition begins this Monday. Further details provided by Seq follow :

Today the Falcon vs. Beth competition begins! The mission to fly is FREE-XWA #24 and the deadline is January 29th. The current highscore (24 299) is held by a Falcon pilot so we have to do really well to be able to beat their scores. Two weeks should be more than enough time to get great scores ;-)
As Falcon is a Squadron of Wing XI and the Immortal winning this competition would be a great way to restore our honor (we've lost all Wing comps against the Immortal very badly....), so I expect everyone to do his/her best!!

- Speaking of the Iron Star ... those of you that have been in intensive care for the past week (or living under a rock) may not have heard about it yet. Basically, the ISM, PC, BS, and so forth, will no longer be used as rewards for winning a competition. Instead, you will recieve the Iron Star. The IS will have ribbon add-ons for different levels of merit. For instance, winning a Fleet-wide competition would earn you to coveted Platinum Ribbon. I think the lowest you can go is a Copper Ribbon. Also, each ribbon will have a certain amount of FCHG points allocated to it, so winning comps will now earn you FCHG points, much like winning an LoC in multi-player. You can read all about it at the new Executive Officer's website : http://www.kawolski.com . You will also find a long, long discussion thread at the TC message board.

- Due to the fact that merit medals such as the ISM will soon no longer be used as rewards for winning a competition, the rewards for excellence during Combat Readiness Testing will have to be changed. The Iron Star and all the appropriate merit ribbons will have to be implemented. This change will not occur until I can actually award the IS, however. So the latest rounds of CRTs will proceed exactly as they always have.

- My final recommendations for officers deserving of the Commendation of Loyalty have been made. Now we just sit back and play the waiting game ... (Somewhere, Homer Simpson says, "Waiting game sucks, let's play 'Hungry Hungry Hippos!'")

- This just in from COM/FA Kramer :

Every month I review squadrons for the COM's Own award, and most of the time I withhold it for one reason or another. This month, I was going to award it to Sigma Squadron of Wing II, but decided that the continued level of excellence the pilots of Sigma exhibit deserves a higher honor than COM's Own.
After consultation with LC Inkwolf, I've decided to name Sigma the official escort squadron of the Sov Flag Officers for the first quarter of the year. Congratulations to all Sigmans (?) on a job VERY well done!!

So who will hold the honor for the second quarter of 2001? Surely, it will be a Wing III squad ... keep flying, guys!

- Recruit! Recruit!! Recruit!!!

Wing III Quote of the Week
---------------------------------------
"I suggest you choose soon as decisions seem to take a long time there." -- CPT Werdna Elbee to CM Cray Mikalen, speaking about Cray's choice of songs to play for a band competition in Florida

Other notable quotes this week :

"- Daleth makes it possible -" -- LC Daniel Kamprath. Could we have a new Daleth motto here ???

"If my CPU wasn't melted, I would have replied earlier..." -- CM Var Zoraan has the worst kind of tech difficulties

"::Captain Sadista steps into the briefing room in his disco-era robe, with a box of tissues in one hand and a bottle of cough syrup (cyanide?) in the other. His pink bunny slippers drag against the floor and he sniffles as he attempts to get to his command chair. As he sits in his chair, a raspy groan escapes his lips...::
Welcome to the next exciting installment to the Aleth Squadron Report series. As you may have guessed, your commander is ill and this report will be short ..." -- Jaster has obviously been poisoned by the stinking Rebels. Doc Mikalen, report to the Aleth Bunks ...

"I suggest phoning them up and complaining to the bosses. Here, use my Nokia!" -- Werdna's response to my crusade against the evil and sadistic Nokia Corperation

Misc.
--------

- This week's discussion topic : Exactly how many credits do you think it would take to get the average TIE pilot to change to a hot pink flight suit?

Well, that about wraps it up for this week. Dismissed, and remember to Fly High and Watch Your Six!
