Interview
With the XO of the EH
FM/COL Tron/Tau 3-4/MC Tripidium
01.10.01
First off, congratulations
SA Kawolski, you've done an outstanding job in your career and we
can only expect the same for the future.
Q1 - How's it feel to be
the XO of one of the largest Star Wars gaming clubs on the internet?
Absolutely
thrilled! ...aside from the fact I got demoted on my second day
in office, so I'm back to being a High Admiral now...boo...hiss...
But I was told after a month of good XO service then I would get
my official Sector Admiral badge with the whole 25% ownership pact
deal.
Q2 - What plans do you
have for your office? In times past when you took over an office
(ie FO and TAC) you made some outstanding changes, and with the
XO's duties being put bluntly as making the Newsletter and being
in charge of the SGs, many have to wonder what will this guy do
with this office?
Well, as you
can see, there has already been a rather outstanding change with
the Newsletter! I have high ambitions and hopes for the future of
the EH NLs and I'm pretty confident that this will be one of the
most fun parts of the job! My vision is for the EH NLs to once again
be the pride of the Emperor's Hammer and a powerful recruitment
tool for drawing in new membership. After all, I found out about
this club when I accidentally stumbled onto an EH Newsletter when
I was looking for a TIE Fighter mission editor.
I know I have
a bit of a reputation as a TIE Corps Centrist, but many successful
management techniques I have learned and employed in the TIE Corps
can be used in the other Subgroups as well. Until I become more
familiar with the subgroups, I've decided to play the role of a
consultant early on. Some subgroups are struggling, unfortunately,
due to a variety of reasons and I hope to do everything I can to
help them out once again.
Right now,
however, getting the proper Newsletter format down is my top priority
so I can guarantee its release at the first week of every month.
On February, I hope to catch up on whatever XO/FSE work I'm leaving
behind due to working on the NL. Many hours of design, HTMLizing,
and programming has gone into making this new format, so I'm hoping
it'll be a hit with the members!
Q3 - I've seen your XO
website and must say, "Superb!" Is your XO site (www.kawolski.com/xo/)
going to be one of our more up-to-date websites for news covering
all of the EH, taking the place of the EH News page on the domain?
Thanks! I'm
glad you and many others like the new XO site! Vice Admiral Slade
did a rather excellent job with the graphics on there just as he
did with this new Newsletter! I'm quite fortunate to have such a
talented Command Attaché, especially in this important office.
Since Grand
Admiral Ronin will no longer be hosting Command Officer reports
on the EH News Page, the XO site (along with the TIE Corps site)
will be carrying those reports.
Q4 - Because it's become
a big issue in the DB and because you are now officially in charge
of the Subgroups and their commanders, what are your feelings on
the current "revolt" in the DB where many members are
claiming GM Zoraan to be lazy and not involved? Do you see this
as something your office will have to get involved with or just
leave it to the DB? Which begs us to ask, what do you see the DB
as, a subgroup or sister organization?
I addressed
this issue pretty clearly in my first XO
Report. Dereliction is a serious charge against a Subgroup
Commander, and it's very important to have evidence to back up such
claims. If there is a problem with the leader, I feel it is something
for my office to have to get involved in.
If this was
1998, I would see the Dark Brotherhood as a semi-independent sister
organization. However, it's 2001, and the Dark Brotherhood has grown
to become a solid subgroup of the Emperor's Hammer as any other.
Q5 - If you were to evaluate
the SGCOMs on just what you know about them right now, without getting
to know them and how they've run their groups, how would you evaluate
each of them on a scale of 1-10?
You've got
to be kidding me. >:P If a SGCOM is doing a bad job, I would
prefer to pull him or her aside and talk about making improvements
rather than making a public spectacle of it.
Q6 - When will the next
NL be out and how regular do you plan on having them?
You'll see
the next Newsletter in one month! I plan on having them once a month
on a regular basis. These things take way too much time and effort
to have them out every week!
Q7 - Your new CA:XO is
VA Slade, what will you have him do exactly? Being a CA:XO to our
previous XO, GN Compton, I was just given jobs of working on his
brainstorms and awarding Letters of Achievement for the NL submissions,
do you see VA Slade's duties being any different than that?
Currently,
I have no set duties for VA Slade. He has been extremely helpful
with the graphics design talents which you can see on the new XO
page and right here with the new Newsletter! I also have him perform
odd jobs here and there along with keeping him informed of everything
that's going on in the office.
Q8 - You're still the Fleet
System's Engineer (FSE) which has you maintaining tiecorps.org and
now you also have your new XO site to maintain, how are you going
to find the time for your job and for your RL?
After watching
an episode of Nightline, I learned that you can improve your mind,
focus, study skills, work and intelligence by snorting Ritalin.
Q9 - While serving as a
member of the ID's Ubiqtorate and then later as CA:XO, I was privy
to many discussions concerning some subgroups and their status of
being kept open during SA Havok's term and SA Compton's. Are there
any SGs that you see as being in question of keeping open and closing
down permanently?
Plans are
in the making for The Fringe and EH Strategists to merge together
to make one large RPG group. The other subgroups I want to keep
around, even though some, like the Corporate Division, are struggling
to rebuild itself.
Q10 - With many problems
happening on IRC nowadays with X and W...will we be seeing SureFire
coming to #Emperors_Hammer?
<`Kawolski>
Bot!
<SureFire> :D
<`Kawolski> hehe...SF's such a cute
bot.
<SureFire> Yay!
<Astatine> Dumb bot.
<SureFire> Shut up!
Well, I kept
the bot in there to help maintain ops while X and W were split.
SureFire and I originally founded that channel (the old IRC channel
was ##Emperor's_Hammer with two #s), but I was forced to remove
him after Zoomba became Communications Officer. However, now that
I'm XO, I think I'll let him stay and watch the channel for me!
I just had to restrict parts of his personality to his primary channel,
#TIECorps.
Thank you for your time,
FM/COL Tron/Tau 3-4/MC
