AD Khadgar interviews SA Khameir Sarin
For those of our readers that aren't familiar with your exploits, could you give us a brief career sketch?
I joined the Tie Corps, Dark Brotherhood, and Intelligence division roughly five years ago. Since that time I have served in various positions, most notetably Avenger Elite Squadron Commander, COM of the ISD Grey Wolf, Sith High Warrior of the Dark Brotherhood, IntOrg section chief, and finally Combat Operations Officer of the EH. My most rewarding and enjoyable experience has been as COO, where I had the opportunity to push the EH name into the Multiplayer Community. I am quite proud of my year as COO and the job that myself and my COOAs (to include my interviewer Khadgar) performed.
Different leaders in the club have different leadership styles. What defines your style?
My leadership style in the EH is based off of the fundamental belief that our members want to have fun. People joined this club for a reason, and that reason was not to be an inactive, non-participating member. I believe it is the leadership's responsibility to bring and offer fun to the membership of the EH. I base almost all of my decisions off of the simple reasoning of "Would that be fun, or benefit the enjoyment of our members".
What are your plans for the Executive Office?
First and foremost I am recreating the EH Newsletter with the help of the Corporate Division. The EH newsletter should be used as a showcase of our talented members and serve as a powerful recruitment tool. The newsletters of recent memory have been lacking in excitement. With the help of the Corporate Division, Command Staff, and the Subgroup Commanders I plan on jump starting our newsletters and making them something we can all be proud of.
The second major goal I have is to help revitalize some of our slower moving subgroups. I believe the Hammer's Fist should be the biggest and strongest of all of our subgroups. The FPS genre of Star Wars games are as strong as ever, and I would like to see us taking more advantage of that through the Hammer's Fist. Currently, myself and the Fleet Commander are thinking over ways to "restart" this organization and make it a healthier stronger part of the Emperor's Hammer.
The third and final goal I have for the immediate future is to improve communication between the CS, Subgroups, and Executive Office. I believe many problems within the EH are simply due to a lack of communication. I am a straight forward type of guy and I believe I will have no problems communication with the leaders of the EH.
The EH has had troubles throughout its history of subgroup leaders attempting to break away from the Emperor's Hammer. Unfortunately, this has recently happened within the IW and DIR. What do you think needs to be done to help remedy this problem? What role do you see yourself playing in this process?
Break away groups and troubled subgroups are not a new occurence for Emperor's Hammer Executive Officers to deal with. From Sector Adimral Kawolski dealing with the Dereliction of Duty Charges against Grand Master Zoraan to Grand Admiral Astatine handling the split of the rDB. I will handle these problems as they come, but as I said in the last question, I believe the majority of the problems in the EH stem from a lack of communication between parties. First and foremost I want the EH to be a successful organization and for that to happen the subgroups need to thrive and excel in what they are doing. I want each and every subgroup and its leaders to know that my goal is to help them achieve success.
Part of my solution to the problem of breakaway groups is for me to learn as much as I can about each subgroup. In my five years within the EH I had absolutely no idea what the BHG was about. Since becoming the EHXO, I have joined the BHG, I have taken Citadel Classes, I have signed up for a Solo Mission, and I have worked to learn about the members. I think this is key to 1. Having the subgroup respect me and 2. Helping them whenever they call upon me for assistance.
What do we need to strengthen the EH's subgroups?
Communication between subgroup leaders and their members. I want the members of each subgroup to know exactly what their leadership is doing for them. I want members to say, "I am apart of this club, because it is always inventing new and interesting things for me to do."
The second thing I would like to see is more participation between the subgroups. I like the idea of the Sith flying in the Tie Corps Imperial Storm Wargame, I like the Idea of the Corporate Division offering services to every subgroup, I like the idea of the BHG and the Krath of the EHDB facing off in role play arenas, and I like the idea of command staff members creating competitions open to the entire EH (not just a specific subgroup).
What are the main highlights of the EH that have appealed to you throughout your years of service?
The most appealing part of the EH is the fact that it is based in the Star Wars Universe. I am 100% a Star War's fan boi. I am one of the very few people who enjoys 99% of Star Wars material, from the NJO to Episode 1.
The second major thing that appealed the EH to me was the structure of the organization. I have never been a part of a gaming club that had the detail and depth of thought put into it as the Emperor's Hammer. I am proud to be a member of such a highly organized club that has evolved from a small group of TIE pilots into an enormous organization.
Where do you see the EH in the next year?
I see the EH shifting from a Flight Simulation based club into a FPS, Roleplay, and MMORPG based organization. The lack of Flight Simulations from Lucas Art has forced us to look to other avenues of activity for our club. I see subgroups like the Corporate Division, BHG, and EHDB shifting more into the realm of role play to offer activity to our members.
Star Wars will continue to publish new games and the EH needs to work to be at the forefront of gaming clubs on setting up and instituting a way for our members to enjoy them. I hope over the next year we can work to streamline our system of adopting new platforms for our club. |
