Casino Imperiale Report - KAP Galaxina Tainer
Sector Admiral Astatine sat perusing Timmay’s files, amazed at the amount of ‘exotic’ items one could store on a datacard. Astatine smiled as he slowly and methodically leafed through each section of the file. Timmay had the most impressive exotic files of any officer Astatine had ever known. "I wonder when he has the time to do this stuff, or more to the point, where he gets it." Astatine thought to himself. Astatine chuckled as he looked at a few more files, then closed that and went looking through more of the datacard. His eyes nearly popped out of his head when he saw some information that could prove critical to the EHBL creation.
He definitely had to have that. Copying the interesting files to his own database for later viewing and possible editing, Astatine was quite the happy man. However, he did realize that he couldn’t keep the datacard. Timmay would find it gone and, sooner-or-later, start looking for it. He sighed heavily as he prepared to slip it into Timmay’s possession. Hopefully, Timmay would think that all he’d done was misplace the card, and no one would be the wiser.
It was now in the wee hours of the morning, and Sector Admiral Astatine wasn’t tired. In fact, he’d made a decision to stay up and try to integrate the information files that had also been stored on the datacard, to the EHBL project that was in the works. If those information files could be integrated, the project would be ready for testing.
In the privacy of his office, Astatine dictated some notes into a recording rod for easy storage and retrieval. He mused to himself "This EHBL is going to be the best thing that ever happened...but…only if it functions correctly. If it doesn’t, we’ll be right back where we started, or worse!"
Working through the night and well into the next day, the integration was finally done, and ready for its first test. One can only imagine the frustration when the test revealed a few glitches in the programming that made the EHBL unfit to release. Not only didn’t it load the battles like it should, it refused to function at all. As there was no error message displayed, all that could be done was to go through the code, one line at a time. Or, was there another way?
Sector Admiral Astatine growled under his breath. "Ewok spit! There has to be a better way to troubleshoot this program!" He sat there frustrated at the non-functional program, then thought of something. He enabled the virus scan program on his computer and scanned the EHBL program for errors or infections. Half way through, the Virus Scan program squealed an alert. It had found the intruder. A worm had somehow gotten into the EHBL program and rendered it inoperative. As the worm had been caught. Astatine felt an evil sort of happiness rush through him as he pressed the "cleanse" button. Instantly the worm was flushed from the program, and all was well again.
He again tried the program, this time to find it did, indeed work. He sighed, and sent the completed file for beta testing, and then undressed to get into his pajamas, and turn in for a much-needed sleep. Astatine yawned as he crawled into bed, and was asleep before his head even hit the pillow. Tomorrow was another day, and it promised to be a good one…for Astatine at least. For the pilots, well…that would be another story altogether.
