Operation: Bright Light II - PFC Trido
Trido woke up gingerly from his sleep. He rolled over on
his small cramped cot and remembered where he was. Damn
boot camp, he thought to himself. He yawned deeply and
began to haul himself up. He sat on the edge of his cot,
the dim light allowing him to avoid the painfully bright
sun outside before he stood up and headed for the refresher
station. He had a shower and prepared for a leisurely day
of almost nothing.
It wasn’t long before his Drill Sergeant came to his
quarters. The Sergeant walked in and waited for Trido to
stand to attention. Trido of course promptly did so and
held it until the Sergeant gave him permission to once
again regain control of his body.
“Trooper, you will be fast tracked through your training to
get ready for a new Operation that is being concocted by
the General Staff.” The Sergeant said examining Trido
slowly.
Trido, his eyes not moving from the wall behind the
Sergeant, yelled, “Yes drill sergeant.”
The Sergeant gave a satisfied grunt and left the room
leaving Trido in the privacy of his quarters. He
immediately went to his pack and took out the pieces of his
blaster rifle. He got out a small tool kit and began
servicing his rifle, thinking that he better if he might be
seeing action soon … action, he thought to himself. Trido
knew that fighting for the Hammer’s Fist meant going into
harms way, but he didn’t think it would happen so soon.
The Emperors Hammer was going through a peaceful time and
most of the people he was going through boot camp with only
joined because they saw it as easy money. I suppose they
will think otherwise now, he chuckled to himself.
Trido had not always wanted to be a military man. For a
long time, he saw himself teaching in a quiet part of
Carrida. Getting the funds to be properly training was not
easy though and this caused Trido to have to find an avenue
to fund his dream. He worked a few menial jobs, but at the
rate he was going, he would be 45 by the time he ever had
enough money. Trido did see the Fist as some easy credits
because of the peaceful times, but he did not delude
himself into thinking that it was easy money. The work is
hard, and people still die during peace, but he felt he had
little choice.
So here he was, half trained and finding himself on the
precipice of an Operation. He embraced what was awaiting
him though as no matter what happened, it would be an
adventure.
