An excerpt from Honorary Member, Matt Busch's newsletter! :)

-Keiran

Hello! This newsletter will be short and to the point, but there's plenty going on in my little corner of the universe. Read on!

"...STAR WARS!

I'm excited as hell about the new STAR WARS film, EPISODE II: Attack of the Clones! Next month will be huge for STAR WARS, since it's being released May 16th. I'll have a slew of related products out that month as well.

This year also marks the 25th Anniversary of STAR WARS! To celebrate that, I'm illustrating a wrap-around cover for AUTOGRAPH TIMES Magazine! And to top it off, the Magazine will feature an interview with yours truly!

A minor correction: Last month I mentioned a cool online role play organization, but gave the wrong title. It's called The Emperor's Hammer, has inducted yours truly as an honorary member. The have also posted an exclusive interview with me! Check out
www.emperorshammer.org, and see the interview directly at:

http://www.emperorshammer.org/archive/MBusch%20021602.txt

Tons of other STAR WARS news next month, including a huge updated STAR WARS section at www.MattBusch.com!..."

RA Keldorn Appointed as New Grand Moff of the EH Territories:  04.11.02
As Submitted From:  Executive Officer (SA Astatine)

EH Directorate (DIR)

A new Grand Moff has been selected. Based upon his wide range of experience, both within and outside the Directorate, Rear Admiral
Keldorn (
keldorn@ehnet.org ) has been selected as the new Grand Moff.

Congratulations.

XO's Recommendations for Awards/Promotions:  04.15.02
As Recommended By:  Executive Officer (SA Astatine)

Office of the XO

I would like to see the following awards and promotions placed upon these individuals:

FA Striker - Award of the Imperial Cross Medal

(Please see the Operations Manual for Medal descriptions)

FA Striker has been one of the most consistent and hard working members of the command staff over the last year or so. He manages to process pilot files with high levels of efficiency, while following up well on potential cheaters. He also maintains side projects outside these duties, such as his IWATS course and helped a lot with the marking of the pilot files for Prelude to Andevia. He has been seven months without a promotion and I believe he deserves this award.

VA Jorddyn - Promotion to Admiral

(Please see the Training Manual for Rank descriptions)

AD Jorddyn has provided timely and important information to me in her capacity as SDIR. She has also maintained levels of activity in the Intelligence Division with the recent and highly successful Cross training competition. This has been performed against a backdrop where she has experience some difficulties in real life. I believe she has proven herself and considering the appointment rank for SDIR is supposed to be AD, I see no issues for her being awarded this rank.

Project Segway

Ever dreamed of an Imperial conversion of XWA ? This dream may come true, with Project Segway, under the direction of Major RogueWing. This project will involve staff from the TAC and SCO offices, and anyone willing to give a hand. Contact Major RogueWing at
roguewing25@yahoo.com for more details... as excerpt from his last TACA report:

Segway:  verb.-to smoothly convert from one mode of transportation to another mode of transportation

Project Segway is now ready to open!

I have a website up at
http://www30.brinkster.com/roguewing/ Some people I have consulted seem to think this is a huge project, but I believe it can been done fairly simply. I am going to go through our plans and explain them for the benefit of the CS.

New Opts: There will be several new opts including fighters, at least one capital ship, a new platform, a new Imperial style hangar, and a planetary surface opt. This sounds like a lot, but LCM Ender is already working on them and should have them done is plenty of time.

New Missions: Ender and I disagree on this part. He thinks we should make new missions to replace the ones that came with XWA. I personally think we should just make a Imperial style CAB around 30 missions long and do as we do with all our battles, make them come after the standard XWA missions. I have several mission designers ready to work on this. Hopefully, if we can get enough guys to make 5-6 missions a piece, we can get them done within a few months. I hope to have a plotline for this written shortly, but I was planning on doing one based on how the EH came into existence. Any suggestions?

New Background Pictures: The background pictures for the main concourse, the pilot's quarter's, the tech room, and the simulator rooms are simple .bmps that can be installed with the next version of Datech. CM Mycroft has agreed to begin work on these, and he does GOOD work. He has also said he can probably do some cutscenes...

Em-Kay Droid: This is the hard one. The M-K on the concourse is a .cmb. I will need to find someone who can make a new .cmb of an Imperial style droid to replace him. Mycroft said he may be interested, but I am going to start looking for someone to be safe. The only problem with this, is that so far, no one has been able to figure out how to replace the sounds M-K makes...that will be my personal project.

So, this is not that involved of a project, but I hope it will have some good results. I would like to suggest that you can announce this to the fleet on the TC news page. If anyone wants to volunteer to help, they can email me with their skills and I can find them something to do. Also, since I suck at simple graphics, if someone would like to make a nicer banner for the website, I would be happy to upload it.

New Mission Creation Contest: Hammer's Pride Competition

The next FCHG Battle Creation Competition being planned for July, I come today with a new little contest. The goal is to design a single free mission, in order to advertise the Emperor's Hammer. This mission should be designed for non-EHers, and should introduce the EH, the TIE Corps, subgroups etc. The winning submissions would be spred through the mission creation community in order to advertise the Emperor's Hammer. The plotline of the missions is up to you, as long as it introduces the EH.. remember the missions will be flown by non-EHers. Thre will be three categories, TIE, XvT/BoP, XWA, top3 submissions for each will be rewarded (up to IS-GR I guess), deadline is May 15th. All submissions should follow the EH standards of the Tactical Manual, avoid the use of patches due to the advertising nature of the missions.

Eagles of Freedom - XWA Combined Arms Battle

The battle is still under playtesting, already 3 beta reports out of 6... I expect to release it next week once I get all reports, once the little correction are made ;) - Teaser at http://www.emperorshammer.net/tac/sal2

2,207 missions online

Several new free missions have been released this week, for XvT and XWA. We have reached the 2,200 missions mark !

XWA Mission Creation Course updated

http://www.emperorshammer.net/tac/xam : No new graduate this week, but the course notes have been upgraded, more FAQs have been added thanks to Major RogueWing ! Feel free to submit your FAQs there, as long as they are not copy and paste from the course test...>:)

Rate the battles you fly !

Don't forget you can put reviews for the battles you fly in the Battle Center !! Rate 5 the best battles you fly, 0 for the worst, give your opinion, tell what you liked or what you hated !

A few merit medals were given out this week to a few people who have offered assistance to the Combat Operations. I am also planning to review merit medals for hosts, and perhaps even get a system in place for merit medals in conjunction to hosting COO Competitions.

Keep reading next week for further details!

On with this week's news...

XO Report #7:  04.07.02
As Submitted From:  Executive Officer (SA Astatine)

Office of the XO

I've started making a note of membership counts, so we can start seeing pretty graphs displaying how things are going. Obviously, only after 2
weeks, it'd be pretty boring. However, the membership total has just recently poked over 4,000 members. This is good stuff and hopefully with JK2, we'll keep on going up. I've emailed all the SGCOMs, with a META keywords list that will result in more hits when people are searching for things. The words list expands on the current one on the EH domain and includes words relating to JK2 and Episode 2.

I've been talking to the TO, AD Havoc, about moving all TO/IWATS stuff off the
www.imperialacademy.org domain. The reason for this? I'm not made of money. I don't actually have a job at the moment and the $60/month is a serious drain on finances. So, during this month, all TO/IWATS materials will be moved over to the www.emperorshammer.net domain. When this is done, a news item will be issued with updated URLs. On the bright side, the money saved will be used to fund the setup fee for my DSL connection. :P

My CA is currently working on the NL for me. For the handful who submitted reviews, thanks. For the other group of cheapskates who couldn't be bothered forking out the money for JK2, you need to be flogged. :P The NL will feature about 3 reviews, oodles of screenshots from JK2 and other fun like that. For those interested in getting spanked silly in JK2, the DB is starting to run tournaments using the game.

We've hit the mid-point of my lovely ban. :P Just remember, kids. If it can happen to me, it can and WILL happen to you. Especially COs. Rank and position is no protection from punishment if you violate the rules. I've been hearing reports of a few people throwing their weight around and considering themselves outside the rules. This kind of attitude is inappropriate for anyone in a command position. Humility should be a requirement for such positions. :P

That's about it.

Tactical Office

Welcome to my 40th report as Tactical Officer.

1. First XWA Combined Arms Battle released soon

"Secrets and Lies part II: Eagles of Freedom" has been sent to the Tactical Staff for betatesting ! This battle is the first CAB battle in years, and the first one for XWA... I guess you will enjoy this 9-mission long battle made by yours truly. Screenshots are available at:

http://www.emperorshammer.net/tac/sal2/

2. Two new battles

Two new battles this week, one for XvT and one for TIE...my last count for the Compendium is around 2,199...

3. High scores

Due to some recent cases, many high-scores have been wiped out, and the following battles have at least one mission with no high score at all.<ul><li>TIE-TC 8,19,23,27,40,47,49,50,59,60,68,95,142,144,147,150,154,155,158,161,162,178,179,183,184,187,190-192</li><li>TIE-CAB 4,5</li><li>TIE-FCHG 2,4</li><li>XvT-TC 1,2,8,15,18,21,22,26</li><li>XvT-IW 10,25,29</li><li>XvT-DB 1,5,6</li><li>XvT-FCHG 1,2</li><li>XWA-TC 3</li><li>XWA-IW 23</li><li>XvT-FREE 40,46-63,70</li><li>BoP-FREE 6,8-9,12-20</li><li>XWA-FREE 7,8,31</li></ul>There may be other battles were you may get a high score by resubmitting your files... The database only saves the best score done for each mission, if you have a pilot file which beats the current high score, just resubmit it to your CMDR.

4. Anniversaries

I noticed that the next month will be a bit special for me...on May 17th I will celebrate the same day 4 years in the EH, 1 year and half as FA and 1 year overall (and a few days more..) as TAC! I don't know yet what I will plan for this triple celebration ;)

5. XWA Mission Design

The XAM Course should be updated soon with a new FAQ thanks to Major RogueWing.

FA Mike Tolwyn Resigns as Medical Officer/Jan Wemmel Appointed as Replacement:  04.01.02
As Submitted From:  Fleet Commander (GA Ronin)

Fleet Medical Corps

Grand Admiral Ronin, Executive Officer Astatine,

Your reaction to my last mail has just shown me how I underestimated my activity and dedication to the Emperor's Hammer at the moment. I have taken the last months into consideration and have to agree with you - to a certain degree. Real Life is taking up much of time now, seing that I have begun studies at university. This has, unnoticed by me, cut short my time for the EH and the Medical Corps increasingly during the last time, eventually ending up with me only writing reports.

I have been the Fleet Medical Officer for what seems to be ages now. Truth is, it were "only" two years. Those two years, however, have been the most productive and enjoyable time in my career. Looking back at my way, I can see that I have achieved almost everything a normal member could while creating a feat unique to the Hammer - the Medical Corps - with the aim to run it smoother. The Corps, although still laughed at or even hated at certain places has proven to be a valuable asset and I am proud to have it build.

Those two years haven't been easy all the time. I have fought lots of problems, from the inside as from the outside. Trying to establish a whole new subgroup like entity is more difficult than you'd expect - some may say that I have failed. I don't think so.

I hereby tender in my resignation and hand a present to you - my two years of hard work on the FMC. It has been revamped and set on a new course with a new infrastructure and lots of fresh blood. With Field Marshal Death as the XMO and, after my resignation, acting MO there is an experienced, although sometimes problematic, leader at the Corps' helm. The Corps is a tool - you may wish to disband it but I would suggest you use it wisely - it IS of need and has already shown its worth multiple times.

I have enjoyed to serve you, Grand Admiral, but it is now time for me to step down.

<HONOR SALUTE>

Internet Officer EH-Related Website Guidelines:  04.06.02
As Emailed From:  Internet Officer (FA Ari)

Internet Office

I have written up a list of Internet Guidelines for the entire fleet. You can always check them out at http://www.ehnet.org/guidelines.php . Sites MUST follow the rules laid out in the guidelines, and we at the Internet Office highly recommend considering the suggestions.

Rules:

  • Sites MUST have links to the EH Disclaimers ( http://www.emperorshammer.org/disclaim.htm ) and EH Privacy Policy ( http://www.emperorshammer.org/privacy.htm ) pages displayed on the main page of their site or on the navbar.

  • Sites may NOT use tsx.org as a redirection service.

  • Obviously, all sites must abide by Bylaws and AoWs.

  • Sites who do not obey these rules will not be linked to by any major EH site. Webmasters who do not comply after being asked to may be subject to Security Officer action.

  • The Internet Officer reserves the right to add rules to these at any time.

Strong Suggestions:

  • Sites with excessively long URLs should consider domain redirection provided by http://www.stardestroyer.org .

  • All sites should be compatible with the latest version of major browsers (IE 6 and Netscape 6).

  • Sites should preferably be optimized for 800x600 resolution, but if it is necessary, 1024x768 is also acceptable.

  • A good idea is to run your site through the W3C HTML Validator ( http://validator.w3.org/ ) and CSS Validator ( http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/ ).

  • Do not have unnecessary large images, popups, or Java applets on your page. They slow down loading time tremendously.

  • A warning about using MS Word and older versions of Frontpage to create websites: they add in large amounts of unnecessary tags, which slow down loading times.

These aren't too much to ask for I hope, but all EH sites MUST follow these rules.

FA Keiran Idanian Promoted to High Admiral (HA):  04.03.02
As Submitted From:  Fleet Commander (GA Ronin)

(Please see Training Manual for Rank descriptions)

Recon Office

This rank is the highest achievable without becoming the Executive Officer. Members who are already Fleet Admirals, who have achieved almost all merit awards and who are universally respected by Command Officers and normal membership alike are promoted to High Admiral. There can only be three (3) High Admirals at any one time.

After starting out as my Command Attach (CA:FC) a couple of years ago (and being a royal pain in the beginning :), Keiran has obtained more than several Awards for the Domain (including the latest and most prestigious Golden Web Award !)  He has tirelessly and selflessly devoted MANY hours of his time for the betterment of the club.  He has matured into quite a productive member of the EH Command Staff and his articles are often posted on the EH News Page more than most other Command Staff.

Keiran has also proven himself at being particularly and singularly adept at accomplishing what even I have not been able to in 7+ years of running the EH.  Namely, he has been consistently successful at getting us in contact and approval from 8 of the 10 EH Honorary Members !!!  He has also organized and compiled several Article Mentions and EH Publicity Downloads (pamphlets, Pins, Posters, Bumber Stickers, etc. for the EH).

Through sheer talent and force of will (and some serious determination), Keiran has become the frontrunner of our club's publicity engine.  I would like to extend my personal gratitude and congratulations for achieving this high honor in the Emperor's Hammer.

Star Wars Celebration II - EH Representatives Needed: 03.29.02
As Emailed From:  Reconnaissance Officer (FA Keiran Idanian)

Greetings,
::salute::

GA Ronin, SA Astatine, and myself have all decided that it would be best to have an official representative from the Emperor's Hammer at
Star Wars Celebration II . There will be a lot of actors, actresses, authors, etc. at this convention. Some of those actors and actresses are our honorary members !

If you are going to attend SW Celebration II already and are interested in being the Emperor's Hammer official representative,
please e-mail Fleet Admiral Keiran Idanian . There will be an award given if you attend and officially represent us. :)

Conventions Commission

Recon Office

Greetings,

<salute>

About two months ago, the Conventions Commission (CC) was formed in hopes of expanding the Emperor's Hammer presence at Star Wars/Sci-Fi conventions.

For members that enjoy going to conventions, the CC is a good way to enjoy going to conventions as well as representing the Emperor's Hammer at the very same time. If possible, a table would be nice to be set up at a convention, but being mobile does have it's advantages.

If you're interested in being the official Emperor's Hammer for a city where you live, would like to meet Star Wars celebrities, get a medal here and there, and have fun, then the CC is for you! :)

please e-mail Fleet Admiral Keiran Idanian if you have any questions or are interested in joining!

EH Internet Officer (AD Ari) Promoted to Fleet Admiral:  03.26.02
As Recommended By:  Executive Officer (SA Astatine)

(Please see Training Manual for Rank descriptions)

I would like to recommend the promotion of the current IO, Ari, to Fleet Admiral. He has consistently served as Internet Officer, maintaining a high standard of workmanship and Project Hawkeye was just brilliant.

Internet Office Redirection Service Update:  03.30.02
As Emailed From:  FM-XOA-IOA/CM Alex Foley/Ranger 1-2/Wing XI/ISD Immortal

For about a year now, the Internet Office has been working (and primarily taking breaks in working) on a site redirection service for the Emperor's Hammer, similar to TSX and CJB.net. Well, that service is now a reality.

www.Stardestroyer.org , my domain, now hosts this service. Any EH member can apply for a http://yourname.stardestroyer.org redirect, free-of-charge and free-of-porn-banners. Since TSX redirects will soon be banned by the EH, I suggest you switch over now. The sign-up takes 2 seconds, and your account is activated immediately!

Take a few moments of your time to check it out:

NJO: Rebel Dream Released:  03.26.02
As Emailed From:  Reconnaissance Officer (FA Keiran Idanian)

Greetings,

<salute>

On Tuesday, March 26, 2002, the 11th book in the NJO series was released. This one was written by
Aaron Allston and is entitled, Rebel Dream. Below is the text on the back cover:

"Scattering after the Yuuzhan Vong's invasion of Coruscant, the panic-stricken members of the New Republic Advisory Council pause just long enough to set up a mock defense on nearby Borleias - and attempt to buy time that fools no one, least of all the Jedi.

Leia and Han Solo travel from world to world to foment rebellion against the New Republic's diastrous appeasement policies. But LUke Skywalker has chosen the most dangerous assignment of all: to sneak into the Yuuzhan Vong's stronghold on Coruscant. His outrageous scheme to gain entry is either brilliant or suicidal, depending on the outcome. Bearing down on Borlieas is a Yuuzhand Vong invasion fleet, determined to destroy the galaxy's remaining defenders..."

On a side note, I've noted a new book, entitled Recovery is going to be a new book that will come between Balance Point and Conquest. There are no further details about this new book at the moment.

As Emailed From:  INQ Chi'Long

This may sound hokey... but I found a review of an early screening of  Episode 2 from a reliable source. http://www.aintitcoolnews.com is generally a very reliable source for movie information, and one of the reviewers from there was privvy to an advanced look...

Anyway... for you pleasure (and domain update, if you like) here is the URL:

Fleet Commander's Note:

I personally saw a TV interview with Harry Knowles on Access Hollywood on 03.26.02 discussing his 'sneak peak' at Episode II - Attack of the Clones .  He reportedly is well known in Hollywood for getting sneak peaks !  This seems to be a legitimate review...Thanks, Chi !!!

Grand Order of the Emperor (GoE) Awarded to VA Marcin Szydlowski:  03.29.02
As Recommended By:  Tactical Officer (FA Striker)

(Please see the Operations Manual for medal descriptions)

Greetings,

I would like to recommend today my Command Attach, Vice Admiral Marcin Szydlowski, for the Grand Order of the Emperor. Since I have been appointed back as Tactical Officer in last August, VA Szydlowski has been my right hand, and has always shown a great dedication to the Tactical Office, office he has been a member of quite since he joined the Emperor's Hammer. Also Professor of XvT Mission Design at IWATS, he involved himself in all mission design aspects of the Tactical Office and is head coordinator of the Tactical Staff. His impressive hard work, associated to the new structure I introduced for the Tactical Staff, has been a key element in the cleaning of the backlogs left for years. He has also successfully led Operation Sweeping Corners which goal was to clean the backlog of bug reports, and kept being active as a pilot, flying quite all the missions of the compendium and participating in MP events; host of one of our internal MP competition, VA Szydlowski is also ranked 6th overall of our MP pilots, and is 2nd of the Fleet Commander's Honor Guard.

His activity has not been limited to the painstaking and time consuming work of the Tactical Office, VA Szydlowski has also greatly helped the development of our Polish EH community, with an article written in "CD Action" in february 2001, and an EH Poland meeting organized as well last year. In the light of all these accomplishments, beyong the call of duty, I hereby recommend Vice Admiral Marcin Szydlowski for the Grand Order of the Emperor.

Thank you for your consideration.

<SALUTE>
