Starfighter Preview

While it's unsure if the PC will be getting the Special Edition that it's XBOX cousin has lined up, Starfighter is definitely on its way.

Set around the time of The Phantom Menace, you fight for the Naboo attempting to break the Trade Federations blockade. In doing so you get to fly around 3 planets, as well as deep space. There will be at least 14 missions for the PC version, but if we do get the XBOX Special Edition you can add 5 more to that tally.

You will be able to fly as three different pilots, who each have their own craft. You're choice is between a rookie Naboo pilot, a space-pirate and a mercenary.

LucasArts make a big song and dance about being able to fly the Naboo Starfighter, but who cares. As sleek as it may be, we all prefer X-Wings and TIEs. Hopefully Episodes II and III will have these craft, or at least the likes of Z-95s, so any sequels to this game will be ten times better.

While nothing is confirmed, it looks unlikely that the PC's Starfighter will be getting online multiplayer features. Since we are only getting this game because they have to port it to the XBOX, we'll probably get what they get. Expect evil split screen dogfighting.

One thing we PC users will have that the console kids don't will be spectacular graphics. We will be getting the enhanced graphics being made for the XBOX version, but we'll have much better resolutions thanks to not having to use a TV screen.

This may not be the next game in the X-Wing series, but this may be a nice distraction until it comes.
