Internet Issues

There is currently a worm doing the rounds at the moment, which is impacting the performance of the internet around the world. The worm is designed to target known flaws in SQL Server, a database application produced by Microsoft. However, the worm scans so aggressively that it can actually affect the performance of your own internet experience. Those of you on broadband will probably be very likely targets and should look at blocking port 1434 on the UDP protocol if you have firewall functionality that supports specific settings. Otherwise, a general firewall such as McAfee Firewall or ZoneAlarm should do the trick. Those who do actually run SQL Server or MSDE (a desktop version of the server) should check they are patched as this is an exploit that has been known since July 2002.

Wing News

It has been a very slow week and I have only received one submission for the Wing XI vs. Wing XVIII competition. I would like to see a whole lot more very soon. XWA-FREE 32 is the mission. COL Drake and Myself have worked together on a mailing list for both Wing XI and Wing IX. This is to hopefully make the two Wings work as one in upcoming competitions. Yes you heard it here multi-Wing Competitions are on the way. This means IS-GW's for first place. More details will follow soon.
