THE  VANGUARD INTERVIEW WEDNESDAY JAN.31th 2001

VitCarp says: "It's lonely up here." <Vanguard> Vice Admiral Chrusos Ichthys, I'd like to start with thanking you for letting us an hour of your sparse time. As newly appointed Battle Group Commander you must be very busy catching up on things. Which also leads me to my first question, what where your prime concerns upon your appointment?
<VA VitCarp> What has really concerned me and continues to concern me is how to move my pool from the cramped WC quarters to the spacious BGCOM quarters aboard the ISD Grey Wolf
<Vanguard> So you're still moving house? I'd thought that would be easier as it's on the same ship?
<VA VitCarp> Apart from that pressing concern, I want to remain active in the Weeks of War.
<Vanguard> No doubt, you've had a busy week. What are your first impressions as the BGCOM? Is this a position you believe you can do some good in?
<VA VitCarp> *smiles* Haven't you noticed? I
need to change the linens. White is so passé, and hardly an aquatic colour.
<VA VitCarp> I definitely believe I can do some good here, or else I would not have taken this position.
<Vanguard> did you remove Priyum's rubber blue moose already?
<VA VitCarp> the blue moose has gone to the Challenged, I believe
<VA VitCarp> they bought it at a yard sale
* MindBender mumbles a curse*
<Vanguard> Of course you've been in the Aggressor Strike Force for about your whole career, but has your view of the Battle Group changed together with your point of view?
<VA VitCarp> First impressions: hmmmm.... It's lonely up here.
<Vanguard> in other words: do you still see the ASF as your fellow officers or more like your minions?
<VA VitCarp> ummm... no
An interview with the new ASF Battle Group Comander
BY ENDER MBIND   Now almost a week ago the first Calamari ever to join the Imperial Forces as an active officer was made the first Calamari ever to become a member of the Empire's Admiralty when he was promoted to the fine function of ASF Battle Group Commander.Vice Admiral Chrusos Ichthys, or VitCarp for people who know him, has hereby created a new first in his career of firsts. A career that is also best described as "fast and successful".

VA Chrusos Ichthys joined the TIE Corps only a year ago. He was first assigned to a squad on the SSSD Sovereign, but quickly transferred to Tartarus Squadron on the Grey Wolf. Soon he was promoted to Lieutenant and then to Flight Leader in Vortex Squadron. When the Commander of Vortex became CA:RO and left Vortex the Commander position vacant.

About a month after he joined the fleet he was promoted to Vortex Commander. He then proceeded to quickly fill Vortex and led Vortex to a nice victory in the first ASF:SC. Vortex also accumulated 31 citations

with 12 pilots - a high score for Wing XIII and a second highest squadron rating in TC at the time. A month after the ASF:SC-I, VA VitCarp was promoted to Wing Commander of Wing XIII.

In this position he made the Grey Wolf a feared name among the rebellion and a known one in the free Empire. Setting not only high kills in regular skirmishes with the enemy, but also claiming grand victories in the Mi'Suh Zone and versus the pirate forces of the UPA. Positioning the EH strongly in that territory. Because of these famed adventures he became on of the prime choices for the Battle Group Commander function when Admiral Priyum went on into the Flight Office.

As your introduction to him, Vanguard has interviewed our new Battle Group Commander:

<Vanguard> fair enough:)
<VA VitCarp> I still see each and every pilot as my fellow officers, but now people are backing away from me more. Something has changed with my shift in position
<VA VitCarp> but even as I ask every ASF Ship to undergo a paradigm shift, I too may need to shift my point of view
<Vanguard> You were Wing Commander before, not the usual choice for BGCOM. Especially not an alien, if you don't mind me saying so. Where you surprised when you got confirmation of your promotion?
<VA VitCarp> definitely. I fully expected VA Cyric to be the next BGCOM

<Vanguard> Do you think that you being a Calamari has either helped or hindered your career? Seen your record I'd say it helped even, Admiral within a year is certainly not bad, or have you had different experiences?
<VA VitCarp> Despite the uniformity of Imperial soldiers, I have not experienced any racial problems. I think being a Mon. Calamari has helped me stand out from the crowd.
<Vanguard> Why does a Calamari join the Empire in fact? Your race was enslaved; I myself for example was part of the bomber force that practically ripped your home planet apart... Besides the fact that you need all your uniforms

customised it's not really the obvious choice don't you agree?
<VA VitCarp> Joining the Empire is not the obvious choice. Then again, who wants to be normal or average?
<Vanguard> As Battle Group Commander you'll be able to change a lot of things and to reinforce others. One of your first comments was to concentrate more on the "Aggressor" part in the ASF name. Will we be seeing a lot of action versus rogue warlords, rebels and other such clubs soon? Like in the Mi'Suh Zone?
<VA VitCarp> smiles widely definitely plan on it. And I will lead my group from the front!
<Vanguard> You were hugely popular as Wing Commander on the

Grey Wolf, do you think your appointment will also benefit the other two ISDs, for example recruitment wise?
<VA VitCarp> Yes. I'd like to think that the latest Vanguard SL was a direct result of my intercession
<Vanguard> that sounds like a good prospect
<VA VitCarp> but beyond the one on one recruiting, I think asking Commanders to get to know their pilots better will help encourage more recruiting and more retention from those recruits.
<VA VitCarp> if we all focus on making

our FLs and FMs happy, they won't leave and they will help our recruiting efforts
<Vanguard> I know that will sound good to the readers
<Vanguard> Communication is the issue here I guess.
<VA VitCarp> exactly. No one encourages their homeplanet friends to join an "ok" squadron. Everyone tries to get their homeplanet friends to join a "great" squadron
<Vanguard> do you have any final comments you'd like to make to the readers before we finish?

<VA VitCarp> ASF - We love to fly! Now is the time to make it show!
<Vanguard> I'd like to thank you again for your time sir. Good luck in your new function and give the misses and your three schools of kippers my regards.
<VA VitCarp> thanks
