This file contains important instructions. Please read them before you install this files! 1st Custom Mission for X-Wing vs. TieFighter from Lucas Arts ============================================================== Created by Michael "Vyper" Stauber, White 3 (IntelO) on 2nd May 1997. First of all: How to install! Easy thing. Locate the directory where your copy of X-Wing vs. TieFighter is installed. Switch to the subdirectory called COMBAT. Now make a backup of the files REBEL.LST and IMPERIAL.LST Then copy the contends of this ZIP-File into that directory and you're all set to play this mission as a COMBAT Engagement. Please note that you don't need to rename the mission file WHITE_XVT.TIE, nor that you need to rename any other files. You still will be able to play each and any of the combat engagements, because in XvT you can simply add missions to a Tour of Duty or whatever they call it. :) So as long as you follow the instructions this custom mission will not affect or harm the multiplayer or internet-play of XvT. Sidenote regarding multiplayer: This mission has not been tested for multiplayer usability YET! But I suspect that each participant of such a multiplayer-battle must have this mission installed on his harddrive in order to play it, or it probably won't work. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Now the boring rest. You can skip it if you wish. :o) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Okay, so in this mission White Squadron's Frigate Joan d'Arc has been ambushed by the Imperial Stardestroyer Valiant, which had lost a big chunk of his fighter complement in an earlier engagement. So both capital ships try to evade a direct confrontation and launch their fighters to try a decissiv blow against their opponents. The Empire has quite an advantage in this mission, because the ISD is still in good shape and a bunch of TIE Advanced escort the TIE Bombers on their bombing run. TIE Interceptors are also around as you'll learn pretty quick. So if you decide to play the Imperial side of this mission, then it'll be a milk run. For the Rebel side and for White Squadron it's just another exciting diversion before the usual party in the Officers Lounge. So get out, wax that Stardestroyer and get back for a cold glass of blue stuff. Really? Well ... try it out. :o) More uneccessary mumbo-jumbo: This mission was created with a Hex-Editor and it's just a quick and dirty hack of an existing mission, using code-fragments from several different mission files and some genuie stuff provided by Vyper Industries. :) The briefing is fully functional, the mission has very few bugs that I know of and it's somewhat save to say that it's probably the first custom mission for XvT anyways. So what do you expect? Keep your eyes peeled for more of them, because Lucas Arts was so kind to keep the mission structure pretty similar to those of TieFighter. Except for some neccessary changes to get the multiplayer and multiside aspects working. Cool, I really have a faible for lazy programmers. :o) This is Vyper, White 3. Reporting in for further orders. Cheers, Michael Stauber michael@benimar.com http://www.benimar.com/black_knights/
