A Small Detour From Endor

The comm light flashed. Sarkis sensed the incoming message via the Force, and woke up scant seconds before the light came on. Sarkis wearily pressed the button and prepared to speak to whoever was transmitting the message. It was Grand Admiral Ronin himeself...

"Sarkis, I have a task for you..." said Ronin.

"Mmm, jeez. Give me the Lichtor V and barely a day to adjust to it you give me something to do?" remarked Sarkis sarcastically.

"Sarkis, this is an extremely important issue: I have contacted the Emperor himself..."

"Ronin, no offense, but last I checked, the Emperor was dead. I don't think Intel would go far enough to fake it..."

"Ha ha Sarkis, but I am serious. I just had contact with his spirit." Sarkis straightened up after hearing that last remark. Studying the lore of the Krath, he read about the visions of fallen Masters that some Jedi experience. Skywalker was rumored to have been visited by both Kenobi and Yoda. But now, if Ronin was correct, he was visited by the greatest Jedi of them all.

"Okay, I'm fully awake now. What's the deal?"

"I am to go to Yavin IV, where the Emperor's spirit will once again meet with me and tell me what to do..."

"Yavin, that's where we lost our first one. Can I tag along?"

"No. I'm taking Omega and the ISDs of the First Battle Group. Your task will be to secure a planet in another system. A very important planet..."

"My Intel brain isn't on right now, which planet?"

"Endor," Ronin said frankly.

"Endor. Right. I think there is a small garrison there, we can handle it. I'm going to need a bit more firepower than the StormWind, I mean it's not really enough to take on a garrison..."

"You can use the rest of the First Battle Group. Arrangements with Vice Admrial Zeus have been made, you can use the VSDs and FRGs and the Iron Fist for this operation. Just make sure that Endor is secure until I come by, if I do."

"Sure, no prob. Maybe I'll run into the Emperor. That'll be cool."

"Well, I have to take my leave for Yavin IV. Remember, get Endor, it could be a key part of the puzzle." And Ronin saluted in the display.

"Will do, Grand Admiral," and Sarkis saluted back. Sarkis got dressed and called for an Select Committee meeting, with a channel opened to Vice Admiral Jordan, Commodore of the FRG StormWind.

"Okay, I've just received reports about the Endor garrison. Luckily, the NewReps weren't too into Endor after getting the second Death Star, so they left a small garrison behind. It still will be a challenge to get, but we can pull it off. Any questions?"

Strategic Planning Director Reezen stood up and asked "Sarkis, I haven't had the time to think up of a strategy for this. I was busy planning another op..."

"Don't worry Reezen, I planned the entire op myself. This is something big." Sarkis turned to the viewscreen, in which Vice Admiral Jordan was in view. "Jordan, your ship is going to see a lot of action. This will pretty much be your ship's finest hour. Are you ready?"

"The StormWind is prepped and ready to go!" Jordan eagerly replied.

"Anyhow, we will do a simple infiltration. Infiltrators will mess around with their base, and then when we are ready, we call upon the other ships of the First Battle Group and then we hit them hard and hit them fast. The Lichtor V will move in later for my personal inspection. Let's get prepped. Jordan, I'm sending you some briefing files, tell me when the whole thing is done."

"Aya aye sir!" And Jordan's image faded from the viewscreen.

"Well, let's just sit here and wait..."

* * *

Sarkis' comm unit lit up again as he was filing some more paperwork. He flipped the switch on, and saw Admiral Bill's face on the screen.

"Well, if it isn't the ex-Prex now Science Officer! What compels you to talk to me?" Sarkis eagerly asked.

"Well, your ship is ready. One TIE Silencer, sitting here in the Sovereign's hangar..."

"Okay Bill, I'm taking a shuttle there right now. I wanna be the first to fly it! In fact..." and then Sarkis viewed a data disk he received recently, "I have a good test for it."

"Well, just drop by, and it'll be there in that hangar for ya..." and Bill's image disappeared. Sarkis then called Rear Admiral Rogue and said "Rogue, prep me a shuttle, I have some urgent business to attend to..."

"Gotcha. May I ask why?"

"Gonna test something out. Also gonna show off to some NewReps..."

Sarkis raced down the corridors of the Lichtor V and got to the hangar, where an Escort Shuttle was waiting for him. He quickly boarded, and set a course towards the SSSD Sovereign.

* * *

There it was, sitting peacefully in front of him: the TIE Silencer. This craft has been in development ever since Bill was still the Prex, but it sat there now, waiting for Sarkis to board it.

From the exterior, it simply looked like another gunboat. But Sarkis knew of the firepower this ship had. This ship was powerful enough to destroy entire Battle Groups with; Sarkis thinks this may outperform the FC's own TIE Protector. They would have to do a sim-run to see which craft was better.

FLEET COMMANDER'S NOTE:

It doesn't...:)

Sarkis climbed into the cockpit and placed his data-disk into one of the disk drives. Soon he punched up a map of the galaxy. There, he set his course and started the take-off procedures.

He was going to Coruscant, but he will take a small detour to show off the power of this craft.

* * *

Rear Admrial Jorgson looked out from his viewport. His ship, the CRS Liberty, was returning from a peace treaty with a neighboring system to Coruscant. The Liberty is a decorated ship, and it had more than the usual crew aboard: it was also ferrying home many war veterans and refugees picked up from the various planets it has visited. Now all of them will have a home at Coruscant.

The Liberty dropped out of hyperspace to re-align itself for another hyperspace jump. Along with it came the three X-Wings from Red Squadron and the two A-Wings from Blue Squad. These five ships were running escort duty for the Liberty...

As the ship was re-aligning itself, Captain Kyle Mistraf patiently waited. He didn't like escort duty, especially for the CRS. If they were attacked, it could just launch more fighters. Mistraf started to punch in some more coordinates when his sensor lit up.

Something blipped and then it was gone.

He punched up the comm channel and said "Harrison, Freries, did your sensors just go off?"

"Sorry boss, nothing here," said Bill Harrison, Red Two. "Me neither" said Jeremy Freries, Red Three.

Then, the sensor went off again. The signature was extremely bright though, indicating that the object...

...was right behind him.

He started to pull up and shouted "Red Two and Three! Bogey on my six! No vis ID, signal Liberty to..." and his ship shook twice. Mistraf wasn't dead though...

Jorgsen looked down from his command post. "Red One, Red One. Answer me..." then he stepped down to the sensor suite where a sensor officer was fiddling around with the controls. He said "What's the situation?"

"Um, Red One is not functioning, but is still out there. Looks like he's been disabled."

"By what? Nothing was recorded out of hyperspace!" Jorgsen activated his comm unit and said "Red Squadron, what is your situation? Repeat: what is your situation?"

"Mistraf was talking about some weird sensor signature, but it was gone. Then the sensors went off again and next minute, he was disabled. Permission to enter combat mode?"

"Permission granted. Blue Squad, fly to Red Squad, and help them out...."

"Sensor signature detected!" the sensor officer said. Jorgsen raced to the sensor panel and saw the distinctive red dot that indicated an Imperial fighter. "Red and Blue squad: watch yourselves out there. Liberty has picked up sensor signature and bogey is headed your way." Jorgsen spoke to the sensor officer "Do a scan on that, I want to see what kind of ship that is. Also get the turbolasers ready."

"This is Red Two, closing in on..." and his comm unit fizzled and went silent. Jorgsen yelled "Red Three, what happened!"

"Harrison was disabled from some gunboat..."

"Gunboat?" Jorgsen was confused. The only stealth craft he'd heard of were the TIE Phantoms. They were superiority craft, using only turbolasers and their cloaks to dogfight well. A cloaked gunboat disabling fighters? No lasers were detected, but there was a strong ion signature, most likely from the cannons...

"Activate the CGTs. We can still sense their mass, we'll be the pilots' eyes..."

"Shouldn't we launch more fighters?"

"Look, we find out where he's flying, we have an X-Wing and two A-Wings against him. We get rid of him, then we repair the other two X-Wings. Why do we need new fighters?"

The CGT was set up, and sure enough, the mass matched that of a gunboat's. Was a bit bigger, but was in the gunboat range. As the sensor officer prepared to transmit reading, a comm officer spoke up.

"Sir! Major problem here! Something has detected our comm signal..."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, something has locked onto our comm frequency. Now it's transmitting signals that are precise opposites of ours..."

Jorgsen forgot his astrophysics at the Academy. "Well?"

"That means that his signals are filling in the gaps in our signal and pushing out the pulses. Simply said: he's mirroring us. That means his signal is perfectly cancelling ours..."

"We're being jammed?"

"No, this is much more sophisticated. He turned us mute basically! Inner and outer ship communcations have just been silenced! No physical damage, none of the intense energy requirements of jamming. Worse of all, the pilots don't know this, and they think we're just silent!"

Red Three just joined up in formation with Blues One and Two. Freries just witnessed two of his fellow pilots quickly disabled from some new fighter. He told Blues One and Two what he saw.

"Hmm, gunboat. No match for us then..." Blue One confidently said. Then it appeared again. Blue One saw the sensor signature behind him, and said "He's behind us! Look alive!"

Red Three pulled up and said "Still no vis ID on this guy yet..." He looked out to see a Gunboat, but his sensors returned it as an unknown, Then again, gunboats weren't known to be cloaked...

Blue One pulled up only to be met by ion cannon fire. After two brief shots he floated helplessly in space. He didn't try using his comm unit since he was now disabled, but could only watch as Blue Two and Red Three were disabled as well. Yet the Liberty just floated there, not doing anything...

"Have we locked in on him yet?" Jorgson asked. Then he saw the fighter itself fly by. Then the comm officer spoke again:

"Whoah, now he's messing around with our channels!"

"Well, he's uncloaked! Use the turbolasers and the warhead launcher and lock in on him!"

"We can't. He's transmitted a virus that's disrupting our targeting systems. He's also taking bits and pieces from other frequencies.." The comm officer stood silent, until he realized what was going on. "He muted our channels, and he's making his own channel!"

"I don't get it..." Jorgsen was angry. He was used to the typical Imperial attack: a bold ISD would thunder in and launch waves of TIEs at it. Now he was going through something completely different. One ship that singelhandedly silenced the Liberty and is now creating it's very own comm channel...

"Greetings CRS Liberty!" said the voice. "Well, I certainly surprised you fellows, ehh? But I have an even bigger surprise coming up..." and then the fighter proceeded to fire missiles towards the now-disabled Red and Blue squad ships. As they bursted into flames, Jorgsen could hear the mystery pilot laughing.

"Look, we're carrying refugees here..."

"I am completely aware of that, Rear Admiral Jorgsen. Your pitiful attempt to hide your true purpose was seen-through. At this point, I don't care. Actually, the fact that you are carrying war refugees will make the surprise even better..." Jorgsen thought of one last thing as the pilot said that. He went to his command post and opened up a panel. In this panel was a solitary button that would carry the Liberty into an emergency hyperspace jump. This jump could be made in less then twenty seconds, and he hoped they were right about it. As he pushed the button, the pilot spoke again:

"Well, I must get on to my destination. I'll let you know now that you and your ship will die, and your executor is...

...Admiral Raemes Sarkis. Adieu..." and then Sarkis proceeded to arm his Ares PPG, and then fired several salvos at the Liberty.

"Massive energy surges approaching!" yelled the sensor officer. Jorgsen hoped that the jump would save them in time. The Liberty shook a few times...

And proceeded to explode just as it was about to make its hyperspace jump.

Sarkis proceeded to deactivate his jamming equipment. It stood up to the test. He then de-activated the recorder and slipped the disk into another drive, and proceeded to hyperspace to Coruscant.

Mon Mothma was at yet another Council meeting. She was speaking to Council members and a few select individuals from Alliance Intelligence until a young sensor officer ran into the room.

"Councilor Mothma, there is an unidentified Imperial craft flying above the atmosphere! He said that he wants to speak directly to the Council, or else he will forcefully have his message heard."

Admiral Ackbar stood up and said "We can have some fighters intercept him..."

"No Admiral, I will speak to this individual..." A viewscreen opened up in the meeting room, and a pilot's helmet was visible. The pilot spoke "Greetings Chief of State, I'm sure you will recognize me..." and the pilot took off his helmet. The rest of the Council gasped and Ackbar himself stood up as the pilot revealed himself to be Raemes Sarkis.

Borsk Fey'lya stood up and said "This man has been charged with grievous crimes including mass murder, and attempted assassination! We must arrest..."

"Well, Councilor Fey'lya, You can add this video to your list of grievances. I just came by to drop off this video, and to say hi to the one person I didn't kill..."

"What is on this video?" asked Councilor Organa-Solo.

"Very simple. Liberty? Ship, carrying veterans and refugees? Well, let's just say that one of me, has just gotten rid of hundreds of you. Still, this doesn't make up for the mistake I made years ago." Sarkis smiled at that comment. That ought to strike Mothma right in the face.

"Mr. Sarkis, is there any other reason you are here besides to gloat about a mass murder you have just committed?" asked Mon Mothma very coldly.

"Well, that and I wanted to confirm my existence in your records. I'm still around, heh heh heh. If you can't see my chest, you should note that I have made Admiral in the Imperial Navy. Anyhow, it's been pleasurable seeing you, oh, and I have a couple other things for you. Here is the frequency of my new comm channel," and a series of numbers appeared on the screen. "I made it especially for us to talk on. Don't bother trying to trace me, this frequency goes through thousands of droids before reaching me. Finally, don't come to Endor. Ta ta..." and Sarkis' image faded from the viewscreen.

"Well, it seems that Sarkis has decided to flaunt his power to us. Like his profile said, he likes to be known. The fiasco at the Main Library plus his attack in the Stimsenj'kat has made him a public figure. He also seems to be getting back to his flying times." Mothma turned to a woman sitting in the Council room as well and said "You will need to contact him, and meet him again..."

* * *

Sarkis flew his TIE Silencer into the hangar of the Lichtor V. He hopped out of his ship and said "Well, are we ready for Endor?"

"All we needed was for you to come aboard..." said Rear Admiral Rogue.

"Well, let's get cracking then! By the way, after I make my transmission to the Fleet Commander, I will be taking a shuttle down to the Sanctuary Moon..."

As the starlines became stars again, Sarkis looked out happily. The platform and the new ships were waiting for him. Sarkis wanted to fly his TIE Silencer again, but the stress of traveling through hyperspace cloaked required some maintenance work. He would take his traditional Escort Shuttle out for the inspection.

The inspection went quite smoothly. Some more NewReps came by to try to take back their fallen base, but Sarkis was confident that Guardian and Praetorian Squad will ensure his safety. Sarkis was happily correct.

SDIR's Note: This scenario and the file for the TIE Silencer will be enclosed in the next NL...
