GUIDELINES FOR A GRANT OF ARMS

Display of Heraldic Arms

1. A Grant of Arms is available to members of the Dark Brotherhood ONLY.

2. A Grant of Arms can only be offered to those members who have chosen

a Jedi Name.

Full Achievement of Arms (Protectors and above)

1. Items in package

A. Letters Patent (Certificate) with...

1) Blazon (heraldic language description of arms)

2) Listing of accomplishments: submitted by the applicant

to the Herald

3) half-sized representation of Heraldic Display

4) Permission to display arms in any fashion

B. Full Heraldic Display: 256 colour, augmentation of medals,

background, motto

C. Personal seal: features miniature of awardee's escutcheon.

2. Use of personal seal in documents submitted for publication: Seal can

be placed at the end of a document with or in lieu of a signature

3. Updates to Arms: If notified of a change in rank, status etc. the

Herald will update the Arms of that individual accordingly.

4. Entry of Arms in official DB Heraldic Rolls: Herald will maintain

copies of all Arms awarded in both finished (with decorative

display backgrounds) and plain (white), which will always be

available to the Awardee upon request. In addition,

half sized representations of each grant will be kept in a file

(Rolls) which may be distributed, downloaded or exchanged at some

later date, at the discretion of the Grand Master

Limited Achievement of Arms (Acolytes and below)

1. Items in package

A. Certificate with...

1) Blazon (description of arms)

2) half-sized representation of Heraldic Display

B. Limited Heraldic Display: 256 colours, sans Medals, on a solid

background for easy updating

2. Updates to Arms: If notified of a change in rank, status etc. the

Herald will update the Arms of that individual accordingly.

3. Granting of Full Achievement when rank of Protector has been

attained.

4. Entry of Arms in official DB Heraldic Rolls: Herald will maintain

copies of all Arms awarded in plain (white). In addition, half sized

representations of each grant will be kept in a file (Rolls) which

may be distributed, downloaded or exchanged at some later date, at

the discretion of the Grand Master.

ELABORATION OF DEVICES USED

SUPPORTERS (devices holding up the shield, crossed swords etc.)

The addition of supporters is restricted to the Grand Master ONLY

WREATH (ring around the shield)

The addition of a wreath about the escutcheon is restricted to

the Grand Admiral ONLY

DARK COUNCIL MEDALLION (medal that hangs off the Helmet's neck)

The addition of a Medallion around the neck of the Helm is

restricted to Members of the Dark Council ONLY

DB POSITION INSIGNIA (insignia attached to tunic of the Helm)

Those members of the DB who have specific duties within the DB

may bear the insignia of their office.

HELMS (helmet that sits on top of the shield)

The use of the helms of Sith and Krath are restricted to members

of those orders ONLY. Design alterations are permitted, but

colour restrictions (red=Sith , purple-Krath) apply.

AUGMENTATION OF MEDALS (medals an applicant has been awarded by the EH)

The addition of an augmentation of medals is restricted to those

of rank of Protector and above ONLY

CREST (EH Rank insignia)

The addition of a crest above the Helm or Escutcheon is restricted

to members who hold an established rank within the EH (GN to GA).

ESCUTCHEON SHAPE (shape of the shield itself)

The escutcheon shape is predetermined by ones rank in the DB. The

higher the rank, the more sides to the escutcheon. Those below

the rank of Protector are displayed on an oval escutcheon.

FIELD (the colour or pattern of the shield)

The Field is determined by the applicant. If no preference is

made, then the Herald will assign an appropriate field.

CHARGE (any image or design on the Field of the shield)

The charge is determined by the applicant. The applicant may

either design his or her own charge, or may give the specification

to the Herald to design.

NAME PLATE (plate bearing the awardee's name, at the bottom)

All arms include a name plate, the design of which is determined

by the Herald

MOTTO (banner bearing awardee's motto, at the top)

Mottos are optional for all arms, The motto is determined by

the applicant, but the design and placement is predetermined by

the Herald

SEAL (reduction used at the end of official documents)

The inclusion of a Seal in a Grant of Arms is restricted to those

of a rank of Protector and above only

BACKGROUND (the colour or pattern behind the arms)

Backgrounds for the arms are designed by the Herald. The Herald

will cooperate with the awardee in the design. The Herald will

1. Your Jedi Name (as you wish it to appear on your NAME PLATE)

2. Your current Rank within the EH

3. Your current Position within the EH

4. Your current Rank within the DB

5. The Dark Jedi Order (if any) to which you officially belong

(Check with the Grand Master if you're not sure)

6. The colour you wish your shield to be (you may attach a sample)

7. Your choice of charge(s) you wish placed on the field. (you may send

your own, or describe what you want to the Herald)

8. A list of your accomplishments you would like mentioned in your

Letters Patent (Protector and above)

9. A list of the medals you wish placed around your shield (Protectors

and above)

10. The motto (optional) you wish to appear over your arms
