Internet Office Weekly Report #8 - 19 June 2005

OK...Internet Office site is going along smoothly, no bugs that I can encounter. I am just patching some bugs regarding the signup form and then the Image Gallery will be online. People will be able to submit EH related images through an account they can freely create on the EHNet site, each graphic will be subject to my approval. Image size will be limited to 350kb. Images submitted must be EH related.

I would like any feedback regarding the previous EH Holonet Awards that have been run in the past, what you have and haven't liked about them, and any general feedback and ideas regarding them. Operation Audit starts sometime before the end of the month, starting with the Sub group websites, then going through the links database by link ID order.

EHNet hosting is still up for grabs people. High quality Minos alternative hosting for your squadron, or any other EH related site purposes. Contact me if you would like hosting. Hosting includes 20mb of space, 200mb a month of bandwidth transfer, PHP support and a single MySQL database. More space and bandwidth can be allowed in cases where it is necessary.

Operation: Audit begins soon with the auditing of the EHTC and EHDB sites next in line. Also, the Condor datapad project finally moves along with the swift creation of some top notch graphics for the datapad. This is not due to my graphics skills (hint: non-existant), but rather to the uber-l337-ness of Major Dei. Thanks a bunch for the great help! :)

Site of the Week

This week, the Site of the Week award goes to:

Sith High Warrior's Office

The website of the office of the Sith High Warrior's Office is using Pickled Yoda's modification of the 2.0.4 SquadFirst templating system, which he names GWSOoM-. :P It is an excellent slimlined release for non-squad sites, and combined with Archangel's excellent graphics template and the content Astix has put on there, it makes a great, informative, updated site for the EHDB. Congratulations to Arch who wins the medal for setting the site up for Astix and creating the graphical layout.

I ask you, the membership of the Emperor's Hammer, to submit sites that you believe are worthy of a site of the week award. To qualify as site of the week, a site should look alright (doesn't need uber graphics to win though), have plenty of relevant information about the particular unit or function, and is updated regularly. Sites must be in the EH Site Database to qualify for Site of the Week.

Operation: Audit

To maintain the high standard expected of Emperor's Hammer websites, I will be running a continual audit of all Emperor's Hammer websites. I will post the schedule of the next week's audits on here and on the soon to be up audit site. No EH site will be exempt from this audit. Sites will be checked periodically (approximately once every 6-12 months) for link integrity (broken/outdated links etc), layout quality and content as well as regular news updates.

Please check here each week to see if your site is scheduled for an audit.

Imperial Senate Site Recode

I am currently recoding the official site of the Imperial Senate subgroup of the Emperor's Hammer. Progress thus far includes the news system, dossier records, ID Line generator and I've started on the roster system.
Project: Condor Datapad

The EH datapad now has a layout thanks to Major Dei, thanks for your great help Dei!
Emperor's Hammer Site Database

In line with my views that sites need to be more closely monitored for news updates, quality content and so links don't get out of date, I've set up an Emperor's Hammer Link Database. ALL Emperor's Hammer (including all subgroup sites) are required to submit their site to this database. Submit your sites, and request changes at io@emperorshammer.org or lenvik@gmail.com. The information required is:
- Name of the Site
- The link to the site
- Subgroup it Pertains to
- Unit type (Squadron, Battleteam, Wing etc.)
- What units it falls under (eg. Odin Squadron is on Wing XIII of the ISD Greywolf in the Aggressor Strike Force in the Emperor's Hammer TIE Corps Strike Fleet.)
- The current webmaster/maintainer of the site.
- The commanding officer of the unit
- Any and all scripting and database technologies it employs.
- Description of the site and/or it's purpose. (Optional)
Progress Update:
- The directory contains 130 sites (+/-0).

Internet Office Tasks List 2005

Image Archive: The first version will be released within a week, as the signup form for EHNet is completed.
HoloNet awards: The categories for this are drafted, and the nominations will begin in early July.
Open sourcing IO projects: Most future Internet Office projects will be open source, ie. the source code will be available to download (eg. SquadFirst+ 2.0.5).
More member-orientated projects: EHNet Hosting services available. I shall be reviewing and making suggestions regarding the IO IWATS courses to Stuart and his related PROFs.
Expansion and addition on projects that help members become more skilled about web design such as the Code Archive: A new EH Content Management System to be released at a later date will be modular, allowing PHP enthusiasts to write extra or updated functions for this CMS and upload them to a repositry of CMS mods. Interested users will be able to download these and copy the file in and add the addition using the control panel of the CMS. Also in the new CMS will be a better install interface.
Updating of SquadFirst code to take into account the new TIE Corps site URL: A new revision of SquadFirst (2.0.5) has been released, updating the links and fixing a JS bug in the EH Classic Scenes theme.
Coordinate with Communication and Executive Offices in porting ELS system to ASP: Task suspended indefinetly.
