This week in Alpha
We recieved submissions for the new banner. Rancorous "Cube" painted a penguine on his fighter and made the mistake of calling himself a member of the "Death Angels". The Death Angels are the Command Staff Squadron/group. This was why Alpha's nickname had to be renamed to "The First Squadron". It is an honest mistake considering our current banner (very outdated). I lack the skills to create such wonderfulness. I am hoping to get 1024x100 banners for each flight (page width header banners) and maybe even a small square patch for the squadron page links and backgrounds. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. I used to have a great program that let me do most of those things (look at Flight 3's header banner). Oh well.
The transfer of pages is going as well as can be expected. Still working on getting it put together completely. It will get there soon. Dial-up takes time.
Squadron Orders
When the competition for the banner is complete, voting begins. This will constitute an AWOL check. Those that do not vote on the submissions will be in trouble without a damned good reason. I already know that Neale is busy with a RL situation. He and Jenn may be the only ones I would excuse. You have until the 30th to give me a good excuse.
Squadron Concerns
We have a ghost walking around here. The ghost happens to know whom he his. I sent him an IM and I was ignored. This pilot has until the end of voting on the banners to report in.
We, the members of Alpha, need our new uniforms procured. If anyone is a tailor, please make uniforms for each of us. I do not know if they are unisex or not. If they are, great. If not, remember that we have a female pilot (Alpha 2).
I have been informed that Cube is having problems with his TIE95 game. If anyone can help him, please do so. I think he said something about his CD was not working right. Please ask him when you get a chance to peruse the hangar during his repainting.
Alpha Flight 2 needs a temporary/new flight leader as Kahooli is being restationed in a few weeks. If you are interested in filling this position, please let me know. If you think someone would be good for it, recommend them. I have strict requirements for flight leaders. Submit your application/recommendation by 20050709.2359. This is open to the Ship with preference on Alpha pilots. Please check with me or our Wing commander or Comodore for application forms or more information on minimum requirements.

Run-on/Story
As submitted by Cube with a little reformatting...
Cube stepped back from his fighter, drew a hand across his sweating brow and smiled, allowing himself one moment of smug satisfaction. He looked admiringly at the fruits of his labour, three hours of blood, sweat, grazed knuckles and plenty of muttered curses but now it was worth it. All the rations he had bartered for paint supplies suddenly seemed like a minor sacrifice to what he had achieved. He looked at the nose art on his TIE Defender, just behind the cockpit window swooped the majestic figure of death incarnate, a eerily skeletal figure, cloak billowing in the wind as the wings of death took him swooping to claim his next victim. The skeletal face almost seemed to rise from the skin of the craft and the black hollows of the eye sockets seemed to, however impossibly, follow you as you moved.
Cube looked admiringly at his final touch, deaths scythe cunningly designed to curve under the floating figure of death himself. The long wooden handle of the scythe almost seemed to reach out from the craft, the long steel of the blade curving to the front of the fighter like a third weapon. Looking ready to slice open the skin of any craft that got too close. "Perfect", mused Cube, "Death incarnate, perfect for the Death Angels.....I wonder if the MAJ would accept this as the design for all our craft"
Cube stood in front of his artwork imagining the perfection of Alpha squadron taking to the skies Missile Boats and TIE Defenders adorned with his image of death from the skies, he imagined the envious looks from the other pilots and the glory his Wing Commander would get from such a spectacle. As Cube daydreamed he failed to hear the footsteps on the hangar floor and it was only his senses that alerted him to LT Reiss stood some ways behind him.
Reiss was standing admiring his work, head to one side attempting to take in the majesty of the art, Reiss walked over to Cube who stood waiting for the plaudits. "Nice Penguin.... but why did you paint it lying down?"
Cube looked at Reiss to see if there was a hint of a joke, he was perfectly prepared to space the newbie if and when he started laughing. Cube stared at Reiss' face, this was no hazing, no squadron banter, he was serious.
"Not sure it'll catch on though" he said, "It's not very scary is it?" and with that final shot Reiss walked away.
Cube stared after him, watching him walk away muttering dark curses under his breath, he turned to look at his art work and saw, not that majestic swooping figure of death, but now a slightly misaligned penguin. Cube sighed and reached for the emergency supplies, the ones he had to barter his last bottle of Correllian Ale for...the ones marked Imperial Grey and got back to work.
Commander's Rant
I do not like being ignored when I send messages. If you are too busy to talk, say something to that effect. A short note in an IM saying something like "Hello there, I am a bit busy with (fill in the truthful blank) but nice to have seen you on line. I will be available a little later and I will give you a buzz then if you are still around." or something like that. I send a message and 20 minutes later, I see the pilot drop off line without even a curt response. If you let others use your IM signature, by damnit tell them to at least say such. If you are unsure whom it is, ask. I still do that with IM ID's I have had for years. Sometimes I just need to have my memory refreshed as to whom is whom. For your refreshment of intellectual capacity (translated: to jog your memory), ignoring me is a sure way to get blasted out the airlock. Look it up in the archives if they still have it. It is not pretty.
Final Words
Alpha is doing great! Let us keep up the great work. Cube is submitting XWA files like a fish swims through water. Gunny is blasting high scores away or setting trends for us to follow. I personally am battling heat problems in the house and have had my computer give me the finger at some of the most inopportune times. This makes high CPU usage difficult to maintain. I hate the lack of central air or a good AC unit to keep things cool.
With all respect,
Major Talons Pryde, Alpha Squadron commander of Wing I on board the Sovereign class SuperStar Destroyer Sovereign, reporting.
