CPT Keiran Laserlight reporting:

Keiran's stories

Something new today. These are some posts from theforce.net forum which I found very funny.

TOPIC: The misconceptions you had about Star Wars, when you were a kid.

One of the early Star Wars memories I have is watching the Empire Strikes Back for the first time. I remember my dad saying that this one had the Bounty Hunter in it. During the first twenty minutes I was under the misconception that the Wampa was a bounty hunter sent to kill Luke.

When I was a kid, before I saw the film I thought C3PO was a bad guy. He had glowing eyes you see.

I thought they were swedish movies!
You see, I´m from Sweden and I listened to those tapes all my childhood. The voice actors were, of course, swedish, so there you have it!
When I was about 10-11 years old, though, I finally got to see ANH.... Wow!

I remember I used to think that Vader wanted the Millenium falcon because it was faster than his ships and he was jealous. I also used to think that the wampa was a snow wookie.

During Star Wars, where Luke is watching the hologram of Princess Leia. In the scene he says, "Old Ben lives out beyound the Dune Sea. He's kind of a strange old hermit.." I mis-heard it was, "Old Ben loves out beyond the Dune Sea. He's kind of a strange old kermit." For a long time, I wondered if Kermit the Frog was a Jedi. I was a very odd child.

I thought stormtroopers were Vaders sons!!
Hes got alot of 'em!!!

I first saw the movies when I was 3 or so, and I had a terrible problem with the accents and figures of speech. When you think that Ben felt that "millions of oysters suddenly cried out in terror," or that Darth instructed Piett to "prepare the bowling party," well, it becomes clear that there was something else of interest beyond the dialogue.]

I also thought that the Millenium Falcon was just landing at the Death Star, and that the Death Star was a friendly Rebel ship.

Once my sister wanted to trick me, so she told me that Sy Snoodles was Luke and Leia's mother but had been transformed into that state by an evil force user. I actually believed her for a while.

Whenever I watched Empire as a kid I used to think that when Luke falls down the shaft on Bespin, that he falls to Earth and hangs from a telephone pole. Yep.

When Yoda doesn't let on that HE is the Jedi Luke is looking for, I thought that he was Yoda's cousin. You know, I knew what he looked like so I thought "If he's not Yoda, then he must be Yoda's cousin".

I remember thinking that Oola - the dancer at Jabba's palace - fell into the hole in the floor, and then was turned into a frog. Then Jabba ate her.

i saw ROTJ before ESB, but i was still too stupid to realise that Vader was his father. .

when I saw the word 'rebels' in the opening crawl (in 1977), I thought that the movie was going to be about the United States Civil War.

also me and my chilhood friends came to the horrifiying conclusion that obi wan was alive and had escaped in the nude. jst a naked old man running through the death star

I thought the first Death Star run was a game, sort of like the Olympics. Some kind of contest. It was because of the medals at the end, with the award ceremony!

When I first saw EMPIRE as a kid, when General Veers talks to that little hologram of Vader I thought he said:"Yes Lord Vader, the shield will be down in moments, you may start your NAPPING

I thought the Jawa's had a crush on Luke! There is that scene when Luke is walking over to the Jawa Sandcrawler to look at the line-up of droids. They show Luke walking, and the next scene is shows Jawas getting excited, screaming, and running away. It looks just like teenage girls watching a boy band. I still wonder about that one...
I didn't know that C3PO and R2D2 were actually actors in costumes. I thought they were real robots.

I remember seeing ESB, and when I saw it was called Epsiode 5, I figure that episodes 2-4 were covered in the Marvel Comics.

I remember hearing that Frank Oz was going to perform a character in ESB, and when I saw the trailer, I thought that the Mynock on the window of the Falcon was that new character.

I thought Vader had Asthma

I tricked my cousin into thinking that the thing on Threepio's back was a microwave that allowed him to fly! I still can't believe he bought that one!

I used to think that Luke's X-Wing on Dagobah was actually a boat that was sinking.

On Endor, I thought the rebels lived in the shield generator and the stormtroopers came in to capture them. Then (somehow I missed some scenes) the rebels locked the stormtroopers inside and blew it up.

I saw ANH (original release) when I was very very young, at the drive-in theatre. The only thing I remembered about it was Leia in hologram form. I referred to her for awhile as "the ghost lady" and I thought she was trapped in another dimension. When she bends over, I thought she was trying to escape by unlocking a little door.

When you got a promotion, you also get a new helmet with a bigger thingy, until you got a helmet like Vader's

And I could have SWORN that the line "I see you have constructed a new lightsaber...
you no longer use mine"e.

From the desk of the CMDR

Hey there! You won't beleve it but it's seventh Vortex WSR with me as the CMDR. This time a little earlier than usually - I've got an important soccer match to play today in the evening and tommorow I work. The report won't lose much on it's style, It will lose some of it's contents. You see, after a month and a half in Vortex I can see much progress. We have more members than in the beginning, we have loads of activity and we are cool. But not this time. This week was very very very very poor in the terms of contact & activity. Much of this is my fault - I didn't found a minute to e-mail you all and check if you hang out on IRC.  This means that it's time to get AIM or other of your American thingy stuff.  Vortex is down in a deep hole this week. I'll start climbing the walls next week! Be sure to join!

What's up?

- Fleet

1. New mission releases mean X-Wing Alliance stuff to fly! At last! I'm going to get them this week.

2. GA Astatine has begun a MB topic.
Be sure to post your vote on which of the games should appear in the profiles. I would however use TC Survey Center to work something out.

3. Imperial Strom V report:  Many planetary capture operations this turn.  ATF recaptures Korriban form Sovereign & Sov takes Telos from ATF.  Like an exchange eh? Our Taskforce loses Endor to TIE Corps Battlegroups. Sith guys capture Hammerhead planet of Ithor. Sov and Sith are on lead.

4. A bunch of new fleetwide competitions is out. Check them in the Competitions part. Nice medals to win there.

5. Emperor's Hammer moves to a new Freeworlds server. War Officer will be in charge of the Zaccarascrow (try to spell that!) server's Empire! Go for us! Don't foret to promote EH you FW freaks. Details on tags and squads are on tc.org

6. XvT Week of War is on. Check the BGroup Report for details.

7. Promotion party at the EH meeting. Old good Grey Wolfers Khadgar and VBladet got promoted to Fleet Admiral. That's too much :P

ASF/Ship/Wing

1. ASF Banner competition finished. Two submissions were sent. Two medals awarded. LC Archangel of AES won. No Vortex submission was sent.

2. Someone who actually reads the Wing and Ship reports would know that it's a good time to report who recruited you or who you did recruited yourself lately.

3. Avenger CMDR chosen! In my opinion it's the best squadron in the fleet. Congratulations to MAJ Tek Selkirk on being the lucky bastard.

4.  A new BGwide competition is on to replace two which are over. Check you-know-which section.

5. LC Choosh, one of the oldie-goodie GW CMDRs was declared Missing in Action. :/ Hope he will return someday.

Squad

1. There is no activity. I blame Canada.

2. Squadron Message Board http://mb.emperorshammer.net/viewforum.php?f=96 . Current results of squadron wide competitions can be found there.

3. From time to time you can check the Squadron Website http://vortexsquadron.minos.net/  I'll update it soon.

4. Vortex Squadron to the Rescue! ends in 1 week!

5. Operation: Virgin ends in 1 week!

6. Citations list will be posted on Monday I think.
