Reconnaissance Officer
Report #65
5.23.2005 - FA Joe

Greetings from the Recon Office.

First off, I'd like to say congrats to SAs Sarin and Cyric. Saying both are well deserved is an understatement. Both men are great officers and good friends. They will both continue to help lead the EH along it's current path.

I would also like to say congrats on all the recent promos and award recipients. There are about 15 of you out there, you know who you are so I'll just say congrats. >:P

Now, I have emailed all new Honorary Members and those previous Honorary Members I met at Celebration 3 except for two, who asked to not email them until the beginning of June due to their travel schedules. It's email, but hey, what can I do? :P

Most of the people I've talked to said it takes a few weeks, atleast, for a reply. So I'm not expecting anything till June at the very minimum.

Anyways, waiting on a reply. Ian Liston should be the first one to return the interview, he's usually the fastest to reply. Once my CA has the RO website up at 100%, I will be posting all interviews and relevant news to that page. Also all pictures taken at Celebration 3, as well as any pictures members want to submit. Don't send any yet, we're not accepting them.

OKay, now for SW News:

$108.5m Opening Weekend For Episode III

Box Office Mojoreports that Revenge of the Sith made an estimated $108.5m over the weekend in North America. If estimates hold, it will be the 2nd highest grossing weekend ever behind Spider-Man, which made $114.8m over its opening weekend, but had the advantage of a Friday opening.

Revenge of the Sith does hold the record for the highest gross over its first 4 days with $158.5m, putting it ahead of 'The Matrix Reloaded' which made $134.2m.

Overseas, Revenge of the Sith has so far grossed $144.7m, for a cumulative worldwide gross of $303.2m. This figure could be higher, as it doesn't say if all countries grosses have been taken into account.

Thanks to everyone who sent in alerts.

Update:

Revenge of the Sith also holds the record for the highest gross over its first 3 days with $124.7m, ahead of Spider-Man which made $114.8m.

Brandon from Box Office Mojo confirms that the $144.7m overseas estimate covers all 105 countries showing Revenge of the Sith.

All figures will be revised on Monday when the actual grosses are released.

Masked Vader Robs Theater

WisTV is reporting a Star Wars-related crime at a theater in the Midwest this weekend. We trust an isolated incident like this won't prevent fans that like to attend the movies in costume to be stopped at the door:
It appears Darth Vader delivered an unwelcome show of force at an Illinois movie theater this weekend.
Police in Springfield, Illinois say a man wearing a Darth Vader mask walked into a movie theater, shoved an employee out of the way and grabbed a bunch of cash.
Investigators say the robber fled the theater and ran into a nearby wooded area. Police have no suspects.

EP3 Screening Report From US Soldier in Iraq

Richard writes:

Another Supergeek here with me picked up a copy of Stars and Stripes and found out that for the first time in history AAFES was getting a movie on it's actual release date in the states. The paper reported that Episode 3 would be released in Balad, Iraq on May 19th for one week only, then the movie would be taken to Kuwait.

The next day, we got to the theater as quickly as we could. En route we met the girl from American Wedding (one of the bridesmaids) and Dean Cain (Superman from Lois and Clark) who were hanging out on a USO morale tour.

Then, the movie.

I SAW IT! OPENING DAY! IN IRAQ! yeah. It was all a blur to me until the big yellow letters scrolled across the screen and I damn near cried. ok, maybe I did actually cry a little. maybe. yeah, so I cried. a little. anyway

I've seen all three of the prequels on opening day.

So, the award for the *biggest geek in the universe* goes to me.

May 19th turned out to be the most memorable experience I've had here in Iraq. I guess God heard me when I begged him to do something about this Star Wars deal.

==================================

That's it for me this week. Hopefully more next time!

SA Sarin, take a look at this site. We might want to take advantage of that if we haven't already.
