Star Wars RPG

Set for release in 2002, LucasArts and Bioware are planning on making the first EVER Star Wars RPG. Even though the game is unnamed and details are scratchy at best, it certainly looks like it’s going to be something very special indeed.

Bioware seems to be the best developers for the job, with titles such as the RPG Baldur’s Gate (and numerous other similar games), and will bring a huge wealth of experience to the project. LucasArts just seem to be there to give away the rights to Star Wars and watch the money come pouring in, but I won’t mention that.

The RPG will be set 4000 years before Star Wars: A New Hope, when there were many battles between the good, yet boring, Jedi and the evil, although far more fun, Sith. All of the characters and places in this game should be new, so there should be plenty of room for the game changing while not destroying the overall Star Wars storyline.

Sadly, this also means that none of the characters or stories from the Dark Horse comics based upon this era, ‘Tales Of The Jedi’, will be used in the game.

Those worried that the game is going to look crap and 2D, like Baldur’s Gate, should fear not. It has been recently rumoured that Bioware will use their new 3D engine for their next game, Midwinter Night, but that is a complete lie!!!

A brand-spanking new engine is being made from the ground up to put Star Wars RPG in contention for the “OOO…PRETTY” award, which RPG Vampire: The Masquerade currently holds. The 3D engine promises amazing effects to make you, and of course your jealous friends, drool.

The fact of the matter is, anything that holds Bioware’s storytelling as well as state-of-the-art visuals, is definitely something to keep your eye on. The addition of Star Wars is really only a bonus!!!
