Star Wars Episode 1: Obi-Wan
SWEI: Obi-Wan is a first-person shooter in which you play the role of Obi-Wan during the events of The Phantom Menace. Basically, it’s going to be Dark Forces III.
Not that being Dark Force’s III is a bad thing. Quake worked its way up to version III lately and I defy anyone to say that it’s crap. In fact, Obi-Wan looks like it’s going to be a fair bit better than most of the first-person games on the market.
If you’ve played Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight, then you should know what’s coming. You’re going to be running around vast levels, lightsabre in hand, fighting off the forces of evil. In this case, it’s going to be the soldier-droids of Episode I with a climatic Jedi battle with Darth Maul at the end.
The lightsabre and Jedi Powers control systems have been changed slightly to become more intuitive. The lightsabre changes haven’t been completely overhauled, but more refined, and sabre battles should become a lot more fun. The Jedi Powers on the other hand have been changed immensely…
Instead of pressing the function keys at the top of the keyboard to use a Jedi power, you will now have to move your mouse in a particular shape or pattern. This makes it much easier to use a power during a lightsabre battle, and not have to use thousands of fingers just to do one move (I’ve heard that some people use their nose to hit a key during a battle in Jedi Knight).
This game will also have multiplayer features so you can kick some real people’s asses. As can be seen by how much multiplayer Jedi Knight is loved, the online battles are already great, and any improvements will tip it to AMAZING!!!
This game is being developed by LucasArts. That means it’s hard to tell if this game will be good or not, as the past versions of this game have been brilliant…but LucasArts haven’t made a particularly good game for a long, long time.
