Custom Missions

The EH was originally created to be a place where you could get extra missions for your X-Wing simulator (I won’t narrow it down as there are tonnes of versions of the game). The EH is much more than just that now, but it is still on of the main reasons for the club.

Where do I get these extra missions?

You can find all of these missions at the EH Battle Centre (www.tiecorps.org/battles). The site is fairly self-explanatory. You just go to the section for your game (the club doesn’t matter so much) and select the mission you want. You will then go to a page that gives the details of the mission or battle, and several options of where you can download it. Just select one of these and it will be downloaded in no time.

Right, now I have a mission, what do I do with it?

The file that you have downloaded will be a zip file (compaction). Extract the files from it into a suitable directory using a tool like WinZip.

The directory that you have just created will now have several files in it. There is usually a readme file that explains where all of the files go. Make sure you read this!!! Usually though, they are like this: -

TIE Fighter:

All of the .tie files (mission files) go into the \missions sub-directory of TIE Fighter.

All of the .lfd files (battle files) go into the \resource sub-directory of TIE Fighter.

Once that is done, load up the game, create a new pilot to play as (using your name and the mission number), and enjoy.

X-Wing Alliance:

All of the .tie files (mission files) go into the \missions sub-directory of XWA.

The mission.lst file goes into the \missions sub-directory of XWA.

The .plt file goes into the main directory of XWA.

Once that is done, select the new pilot file that the .plt file creates, and load up the game. Play as normal.

REMEMBER TO BACKUP ANY FILES THAT YOU ARE OVER-WRITING. I usually make a backup directory to store these files until I want the game to go back to normal. Then I just put them back to their homes.

Occasionally, things are a bit different to them methods, but they are usually well explained in the readme file.

Yeah, I finished my first extra mission (or battle), but is that it?

No, far from it. Now you have to get the credit that you deserve.

You will now have a .plt (XWA) or a .tfr (TIE) file buried away in the main directory of your game that holds all the info that you completed the mission, and the score you got for it. You have to e-mail that file to your Squadron Commander (or other direct superior) to say that you have completed it. It will then go on your record, and you will get the respect of your fellow pilots.

Remember this though, when you are playing, make a note of the score of each mission you play on a piece of paper of something. Then when you send your player file, send your score by mail as well. It makes your Commander’s job much easier, and when you are playing a battle your Commander won’t know what score you got for each mission (in XWA anyway). You have to do this if you are aiming for the high score.

Please, please, please, please, please zip (compress) your player file before you send it to your Commander by e-mail. It makes the file much, much smaller, thus making it faster to send and receive over the Internet.

I would also suggest that you store the file somewhere on your computer, just in case your Commander looses it, or have problems proving that you did indeed complete the mission.
