For over a thousand generations the Avenger Task Force has been aligned with the Dark Brotherhood of Jedi. Well, probably it was not exactly that long but since the first Dark Jedi founded the Dark Brotherhood they had been looking for a place where they could practice their dark arts. A planetary base would hinder operations, forcing long hyperspace travels to complete their mission. Also the pursue of Jedi seemed all to easy if sitting on a planet and waiting for them - not that any of the Dark Masters feared the Jedi - no, but they wanted to choose the battlefield of their desire.

The only solution could have been a mobile operating base where they could bring fear and anger into the galaxy. It was during that time that a new Capital Starship was build by TIE Corps to honor their leader - the SSD Avenger.

Impressed by the sheer fear the appearance would strike into the hearts of the enemy the Grandmaster chose this ship as the Flagship of the Dark Brotherhood. While it was also the flagship of the newly founded Avenger Task Force the bound between Darkbrotherhood and TIE Corps was strengthened.

As part of their agreement all Commanding Officers serving aboard the SSD Avenger should be Dark Jedi making the command of this ship more efficient than any other of the fleet. This former agreement has nowadays become a big tradition between Dark Brotherhood and TIE Corps where promising Dark Jedi will get commandship of Squadrons and later become Wing Commander or higher. For keeping the SSD Avenger operational for both TC and DB tasks different squadrons for both  parties had been created. During time of need those squadrons align and fly together bound by a row tighter than any communication - the Dark Side of the Force.

The SSD Avenger

Except for the Death Star battle station [and the Eclipse and Sovereign classes of Super Star Destroyers], the Super-class Star Destroyer is the largest warship ever constructed. Five times the length of an Imperial Star Destroyer, each carries more than a quarter million troops and crew.

Over 1,000 turbolaser batteries, ion cannons, and tractor beam emplacements dot the eight kilometre length. These vessels are like a fleet unto themselves. Twelve squadrons of TIE class fighters (two wings) await within the huge confines of the massive ship. Other carried vessels bring the total aboard the Super Star Destroyer to over 200 ships.

Even more weapons of destruction are within the Super Star Destroyer, including a full corps of stormtroopers and other soldiers, 25 AT-AT walkers, 50 AT-STs, and various other ground assault vehicles. In addition, the ship carries three pre-fabricated garrison bases for immediate deployment.

The Super-Class Star Destroyer is the dream of the Emperor and the epitome of his new navy. It represents the best and newest vessel available in the Imperial inventory. It is a command ship, a spacegoing headquarters from which to guide planetary invasions, space battles, and the like.

Four of these massive vessels are now in service. The first, Executor, was presented to Lord Darth Vader by the Emperor to serve as his personal flagship.
